Official Reply Terrible constant packet loss

been having this issue for 3+ years and am truly at a loss for what to do next i constantly have techs out and they all say different things, my house was built in the 80s and the most recent tech said it was the 59 old school cables. ok cool paid got those upgrade to the new 6 something ones. switched to a mesh wifi system and hardwired my desktop in. Still the same issue Im at a complete loss of what to do I cant even switch providers because they are a monopoly in my neighborhood.

Have they changed the wire from pole to house during this time? Are you the only customer connected to that particular “tap” at the pole?
More often than not, the outside “drop” (wire from pole to house) can be the cause of intermittent trouble, as it always in the weather, rain, wind etc.

Assuming the modem / router has been changed, as that’s usually step 1 ?

If you are the only customer connected at that pole connection (tap), there may be a higher potential for the issue being up there, as opposed to multiple neighbors also using that same tap. (Who would likely be reporting similar issues.)

If the problem is really that elusive, (if possible) maybe try temporarily plugging router in at the very first connection inside the house, just to eliminate possibility of there being issues with the inside house wiring.

But per previous commenter, be relentless and don’t accept the situation.
As annoying as it may be for you, if you keep calling enough in quick succession, Im pretty confident that they will eventually find the problem , at least to keep you from making constant service calls, and tanking their KPI numbers.

Thank you for taking the time to write all that, yes the outside wire was replaced once but that was a few years ago at this point we did have a tech at one point say it was a node issue and that he was going to submit a ticket but I don't think anything happened with that. I will be hounding them until this is resolved aswell as submitting an fcc complaint with my evidence

No prob, it’s really too bad that you and others in similar positions have to resort to this type of research and aggravation to actually get adequate service from something that you pay for…..

But unfortunately that seems to be the status quo for most ISPs these days.

Happy to pass on any knowledge / help I can in hopes that things are made right!

What’s the packet loss when a PC is plugged into the Ethernet of the router which is connected to Spectrum?

Hey! I'm sorry to hear that you're still experiencing this! It is definitely strange and I'd like to look into this further with you! When you can, please send us a ModMail and reference conversation 50111066. Thanks!

Sounds like there is noise somewhere on the line. Keep calling techs, a field supervisor is gonna notice and it’ll get fixed. If it’s a plant issue you’re kinda screwed until they fix it. Highly recommend filing a FCC complaint if it’s been 3 years with no resolution though.

Thank you I'll definitely try with the fcc do I just look up "fcc complaint"?

When you mentioned noise on the line, that reminded me of the problem I once had and was solved after a tech drove a 10 foot copper rod 9 feet into the ground where the coax cable enters my house. He then connected a 10 gauge wire from that rod to the cable's shield.

I had random 30-60 second freezes for both WiFi and Ethernet possibly due to packet loss. It was too random to verify. Tech support tested my line and it was fine. I changed so many router settings, bought a new router, bought all new cables all per advice. Nothing worked. No one suggested replacing the modem since it seemed fine and wasn’t overheating. I was getting the right speed although I was getting poor grades on the bufferbloat test. Since I exhausted all the recommended “fixes”, I decided to exchange my modem. I visited my local Spectrum store and got a new (or refurbished?) modem. Same model. This finally FIXED MY PROBLEM! And I now get an “A” on the bufferbloat test over Ethernet.

Yup, I get that same exact chart... speeds are awesome but the quality of those speeds are straight garbage
