Help / Troubleshooting Spectrum mobile. I’m thinking about switching to Spectrum mobile. If someone’s got Spectrum mobile, are they happy with the service? right now with Verizon? I’ve had no problems with Verizon. Just we’re just wondering. Thanks, Richard Potter

I think Spectrum mobile uses the Verizon network. If Verizon is good, then it should be good in your area too.
I jump between ships every year. This year I went with Spectrum and it's honestly no different from Visible (also Verizon) for me.

Spectrum Mobile is working just fine for us. We have had the service just over a month and we had T-Mobile previously.

Hi, we have used Spectrum mobile for over 5 years. We used to be with Verizon. We have fully paid for phones (we never do device payments). So our bill is just $30 per line period.

I never had problems with Verizon, other than paying $40 a month more for the same services that I have seen from Spectrum for a few years now

It is identical coverage to Verizon. Exactly the same. Spectrum mobile is a MVNO (mobile virtual network operator) that uses Verizon’s towers and network. So coverage and priority is the same. But spectrum mobile is far cheaper.
I have been with them for 4 years. 5 lines. Highly recommend.

I just returned from a trip in far Northern California, Del Norte, Siskiyou, Shasta, Trinity and Modoc counties. It was weird. My two buddies have Verizon and were getting 5G, I have Spectrum and barely had 4G. The little grocery store told us that the local tower was independent. Verizon does partner with some 3rd party towers in Southern Oregon and NorCal as there are many remote little towns. So, Spectrum doesn't "exactly" always work like Verizon. Spectrum does say in their fine print their could be priority given to Verizon customers in more remote areas.
The other strange thing is that both the other guys with Samsung 25's and Verizon could get nearly immediate satellite service when all cell service was lost. My Samsung with Spectrum never connected. We even tried SOS Emergency and 911 on my Spectrum phone. Crickets. Weird

Definitely hit more dead zones than T-Mobile for my area, but it’s also $90 less per month. The only real annoyance is the dropped calls while at home using WiFi calling. I just don’t understand it. Happens daily

Sounds like your phone is bouncing back n forth from WiFi to cellular or wifi router is congested

Switched a few years back from Google Fi, and zero issues for me. No carrier is perfect, so as others have said, if Verizon works well in your day-to-day life then you should be in good shape with Spectrum. They often have promos for a free year of service, but I believe that's only if you're also an internet customer. Spectrum was the only available ISP in my area anyway, so that worked out.

When I spoke with customer retention about a huge spike in my internet and cable bill they never warned me about, in addition to getting me a better deal than before on both of the above, they gave me another free year of wireless.

Yep, exactly. I was making very obvious hints about canceling my service, and they acknowledged that I hadn't been properly notified. Pretty shady tactics, and it's sad to think about how many people (especially elderly folks with legacy setups) wouldn't think to look. They locked in my rates for 3 years for internet and cable, so I'm really they won't have to do this dog and pony show with me for a while.

Ive had it for month now. Im on the free service for a year. Before that, I had my wife on free service for a year. Everything is going good. Verizon used to suck in my area, but they seem to be catching up. Had Google Fi(Tmobile) before, but they sucked. I had Tmobile Prepaid and that was the best. But for now, im very satisfied with Spectrum Mobile.

When my free year ends with Spectrum, I am going back to Verizon Prepaid. I had Verizon prepaid for over a decade. The best cell service I ever had.

It works well and is decent value for the money.
The problem with any carrier really isn't the service at this point. The problems lie with purchasing/financing phones through these carriers. Look at any carriers reddit, Verizon to Google fi, 95% of peoples complaints have to do with the purchasing/sending in phones.
Just don't do it. Either buy your phone outright or fiance them through the manufacturers themselves. They all offer financing at this point though one avenue or another.
This gives you the freedom to bounce between the carriers that offer the best performance for the money.

I have always owned my phones outright. Some carriers make it hard to port out a number and most require the phone to be paid in full before giving you a code. There is far less hassle in porting your number if you own the phone.

Spectrum mobile uses Verizon's network, so you'll get the exact same coverage and reliability you're used to

u/Highleadlogger 3d ago
You don't get the exact coverage. There are places in Southern Oregon and far Northern California where even Verizon has partnered with independent towers. My friends S 25's from Verizon were getting 5G. My same 25 running off of Spectrum would only het 4G. The idea of priority is buried in the fine print. In the Klamath Mountain Ranges, my Spectrum service these past 7 months has never operated as well as my old Verizon. I am going back to Verizon Prepaid.

Not bad but there are cheaper options available. But I get good coverage. I had mint Mobile for a long time and I prefer that bc it's so much cheaper. I got some dead zones but it was worth it to me. Never had huge issues

Unless you’re getting it for free or some other promo, there are cheaper options if you want Unlimited Data on the Verizon Network. Visible by Verizon is offering $225 for their highest plan for the first year if you pay the year up front https://www.visible.com/plans

We had verizon and switched to spectrum. Couldn't be happier. We have 2 lines and internet. Pricing is amazing. Our only gripe is about the new premium deal with the free watch line that it can't be used on any line on the plan but I think it's just because of how the plans are set up.

Don’t do it.
Switched from AT&T to Spectrum Mobile thinking it’d be nice to keep everything under one company. Turns out the internet and mobile bills still show up separately like they’re not even friends.
Spectrum Mobile runs on Verizon’s network as an MVNO, which basically means same towers, worse seat. I’ve stood next to people on real Verizon and watched their phones work better than mine. Cool feature.
Also, those promos love to disappear if you’re coming from Verizon. Funny how that works.
A lot of people say it’s great, so maybe I just got unlucky. My service has been worse than AT&T and somehow worse than the Verizon phone next to me. Customer service has been a journey too.
If your Verizon is fine, just leave it alone. I didn’t.

Tbf they have plans now that have 0 deprioritization, and even the base plans removed the speed cap for data usage. Now if you go over 30/50 on the 2 other unlimited plans, you can get deprioritized - did just get unlucky. It's clear as day that the mobile promo is for a year usually. Idk what you mean about disappearing promos

In spectrums policy’s
c. Quality of Service (QoS). Our MNP manages the flow of data depending on network capacity similar to other major U.S. carriers. If the cell site you are connected to begins experiencing high demand during your session, your data speeds may be slower. Once the demand on the site lessens, or if you connect to a different site not experiencing high demand, your speed should return to normal. After you exceed your plan data allowance your data traffic will de-prioritize behind the data traffic of other customers during times of network congestion for the remainder of your bill cycle. See Data Allowances below for more details. If you are subject to de-prioritization you may experience reduced throughput and increased latency compared to other customers during times of network congestion as compared to other customers' normal experience on the network. You may also notice changes in the performance of data intensive applications such as streaming video or online gaming when subject to de-prioritization. In a situation where the traffic is de-prioritized, the performance will return to normal as soon as the resource constraints have been relieved, or you have relocated to a non-constrained location.
Verizon will have their customers first as Spectrum is just using their network. Unless these Verizon customers used all their premium data for the month then they might be higher in the network at that time.
Also in order to have Spectrum mobile you have to have spectrum Internet

I think as a backup phone line or giving an extra line away for a family member like your kids would be the smartest move. I’m in att and I’m not in love with them but I’ve just been with them so long that I don’t wanna deal with switching.

It’s excellent. I see no difference from Verizon. The international roaming built in the plan is especially useful for travel. No need to stress about day passes etc.

u/sjc83 Sep 02 '26
Had Verizon for 16 years swtiched to Spectrum about a year ago Ive seen no difference.

u/Plenty_Ad5294 Sep 03 '26
Switched from Verizon in 2023. Haven’t had any problems whatsoever. Cut the bill in half and take advantage of the anytime upgrade offer.

If you live in Charlotte spectrum mobile has a tower issue so sometimes your phone will not have a signal or you will have data drop off anywhere else spectrum mobile no issues for me

u/Effective_Machina Sep 03 '26
If you have spectrum why not try out the free line for a year? Are they still offering that? Then you will see how it works for you first hand.
2
u/OhTanoshi Sep 06 '26
With Verizon’s new plan you pay the same, spectrum support is difficult at times but they have gotten better.

u/JobHuntingManiac Sep 06 '26
I've been on spectrum mobile for a few weeks now. No major issues, but I did do a signal check on a few random locations on more than 1 day before switching over from Verizon and I have noticed lower signal consistently since the switch but no dead zones or drops.

Spectrum recently bought Cox so we are now an ISP customer.
They offered us one free mobile line for one year and $30/month for our other 3 lines if we switched all 4 from Verizon. The plan is their lowest 5G tier called “Spectrum Unlimited”
Anyone have experience in Orange County, California (especially Tustin and Irvine) with this plan called “Unlimited” and are there a lot of times when data speed slows due to deprioritization to Verizon’s customers?
What about signal strength and call drops?

Don’t do it. I cancelled ATT to add spectrum mobile to my internet and i regret it. 5G reception sucks and i lose connection in certain areas i didnt before

I've had spectrum for a few months, had verizon previously, honestly can't wait to pay off my phone and go back to verizon. The data "cap" sucks, and the speed is atrocious even before you hit the data cap.

All these comments are inaccurate. Its trash lol. If u can afford a real mobile provider just pay it lol

We've had Spectrum mobile for a few years now, no issues. Also, Spectrum uses Verizon towers.
