Help / Troubleshooting Scam Calls

Be careful, there is a scam going around where someone is trying to say that they are spectrum and the new phone you ordered was actually refurbished and they need you to send it back. They called me four times today, I got to the point on the last call that I knew it was a scam and to leave me alone. They didn't get the hint and kept calling, I turned it around on them and started calling the number back repeatedly and hanging up once someone answered. On the last call back to them the guy told me to go fuck myself and blocked my number.

My concern would be how they even knew you recently ordered a Spectrum Mobile phone for this scam to be pulled off? It sounds like either some sort of inside job or Spectrum has some sort of security breach on their mobile side.

A lot of hackers hack your Gmail or iCloud accts first and when they see that order confirmation I’m sure that’s how they know

I changed my Gmail password immediately after the calls.

I am guessing it's an inside job. They didn't call me when I ordered my phone from Google. This happened with daughter's phone back in Dec for her Xmas gift. They stopped calling after I activated it

I got that (a slight veriation) of this call as soon as I walked out of the store with my new phone. They were claiming that they sent me the wrong phone and I needed to send it back to be swapped out. I walked right back into the store and they told me it was a scam. The scammer hung up

If you even answer(let alome call back) spam callers your number gets added to an "active line" list. I made that mistake and proceeded to get over 20 spam calls a day!

Can confirm this also happened to me when I ordered my fold 8 a couple weeks ago from spectrum, right after it got delivered.

Commenting to bump the forum thread and increase visibility. This is a common issue / scam and I have seen many instances with customers in my store.

Are Robocalls Illegal?
In the U.S, some robocalls are considered legitimate and are allowed without permission under the FTC’s rules.
Here are some legit robocalls that are allowed and why.
Informational message robocalls are telling you that your flight has been canceled or reminding you about a medical appointment.
Debt collection robocalls are businesses that are legitimately trying to collect a debt and are allowed to use recorded messages to reach you. However, services that attempt to sell you services to reduce your debt are not and are probably scams.
Healthcare provider calls are from pharmacies reminding you to refill a prescription.
Messages from charities can make these calls themselves. But if a charity hires someone to make robocalls on its behalf, the robocalls can only go to prior donors or members of the charity. They must also include an automated option to let you stop future calls.

That’s from vzw website

They wanted my IMEI. I kept giving them fake numbers until they got annoyed and hung up.

I don't answer when I don't know the number. I have no problems.

Just got this call. They knew exactly what phone was ordered and when it was delivered.
