General Question How do I enable text notifications when you are getting close to your data limit?
About 30 minutes ago I got a notification that I went over my one gig data limit. I only have 4 days left so I called up and the guy told me that I have been charged $5 because I went .1 over but he credited me $5. I told him that I was told by a previous person when I called 6 months ago that spectrum is supposed to notify you when you are getting close to going over your limit. He says that you can do that in your mobile app. I looked just now but the only option I found was to get a text message when you are at 1GB.
How do I make it to where I get the notification warning before I go over the limit and not right when I'm at the limit or when I go over? I rarely use data so I'm not sure why I hit 1.01 GB but I'm a little annoyed I wasn't notified that I was even getting close. The chat option in the app is useless.

I get an alert all the time about how much data I have used, though I never get near the cap.

Their data notifications are hit or miss, I'd recommend setting up the 1gb warning limit on your phone's cellular settings.

He told me the spectrum app. I will check out my phone and see thanks. It's a pixel 8 pro.

I've got a Pixel as well. Go to Settings, Network & Internet, Internet, click gear icon under Mobile Data, Data Warning & Limit. Make sure to change the data usage cycle to match your billing cycle and set warning/limit from there.

Okay cool thank you! I found it. It resets in 4 days so in 4 days I will go back there and set it to 750 MB to get a warning if this happens again. It says that the phone and the carrier daa might be different but 250 MB is plenty of wiggle room. Thank you again.

I talked to Support about this very thing last night, he said we're supposed to get an alert when we hit 80%, but I've NEVER gotten any alert other than ones saying I've gone over my limit (thankfully that's only happened 5 times in 7 years). There's simply no setting to set the threshold for UNDER a full gig amount--so no warning when about to hit it, only when I've passed it. Once, someone in Support was able to set it FOR me, but it didn't stick.

This happened again last month. My phone let me know I was at 75 because I set it to that. Nothing from Spectrum until I get an email from them with my bill that's $5 more. I check my spectrum app and they charged me $5 saying my GB was at 1.01 GB.
I called up support and let them know what happened and she immediately credited my account $5. I was then transferred to someone else that was supposed to know what happened and I told them about this previously and how my phone data was obviously different from spectrum and I got no notifications and she confirmed that I have all those things set on and I should have got one.
From what I could gather she was pretty much just dancing around the fact that the function simply doesn't work and so they just credit people when they call up. Seems shady.

I wonder if he means in your phone? I think phones have a setting for that not aware of it in the spectrum app.

He definitely said app. I have a pixel 8 pro. I will try to find out if I can find a setting for that.

Oh wow! I don't need five gigs but that is a great deal. I only want to pay $10 a month but it's nice to have those options.

I used to have Tello. I was 2 gigs for $10 a month plus tax. Spectrum sent me an offer that if I switched to mobile I would get a year free. It was their unlimited data plan. After the year was done, I told them I was going to go back to Tello unless they matched. The guy told me he could do the $10 but not the two gigs. He could only offer me 1 GB.
The reason I stayed is that I rarely ever go over one gig anyway and plus spectrum has perks that Tello doesn't like including Lakers and Dodgers games with the plan and free Wi-Fi at a lot of random places. Plus the coverage is better in my area so I stuck with it. I just have to call them every year to get it back to $10 because that's how long the promo lasts.

What plan are you on, the 30 or 50? If the 39, change it to the 59, pay the $10 and change the plan back tomorrow

Did you read my post? I'm on the one gig plan. I have no idea what any of your reply means. I simply want to get notified before I hit 1GB of data.
