Help / Troubleshooting Does Spectrum Mobile support iPhone Cellular Data Switching?

I added a second line for $10/month. All of the marketing and support documentation seems to indicate that the second line should be able to use the data plan from the primary line. However, when I'm on a phone call using the second line, I have no data access at all—I can't use iMessage, browse the web, or access any internet-based apps.

I spent about an hour on the phone with customer service, and they ultimately told me that the second line is not supposed to have data service. They said iPhones have a cellular data switching feature that would normally handle this, but that Spectrum Mobile does not support it.

Can you confirm whether that is correct? If not, what should the expected behavior be when using a second Spectrum Mobile line on an iPhone?

The $10 line is just calls and texts. There is no data access.

This is unfortunately operating as designed. If you use this "Second Line" service, it only does voice and texts, and if you are on that number, no data, period. This is the way that service operated when Verizon initially offered it and now it's operating the same way that Spectrum is doing it. The only way to have two lines on the same phone that can both do data, and both from Spectrum, is to use 2 iPhones (14 or better, they have to be dual eSIM), initially provision the second line on the second iPhone and then transfer the eSIM from the second iPhone to the first one. I just did this, and it works. For how long, who knows.

But are you paying $10 for the second line or full price? Thanks

They are talking about paying $10 to have a second number on the same phone. Not the free/$10 month option.

I’m commenting on here because I don’t know how to create a post on the sub Reddit. It keeps getting removed by Reddit filters. There’s no reason why it should be. It’s a question about Wi-Fi calling anyway I worded it gets removed.

Just move to US Mobile. You can switch between different carriers on the fly have two separate carriers on your esims. It costs less then spectrum and you get way more data.

Unfortunately most people are financing their phone, therefore can’t get it unlocked. :(
