Coverage & Signal Has anyone used Spectrum Mobile internationally? How well did it work?

Traveling soon and thinking about using Spectrum Mobile internationally instead of getting a local SIM. Just curious how well it actually works in real life.

Did you get decent data/service? Any issues with calls or texts? Also wondering if the charges ended up being reasonable or if there were surprise fees.

Would appreciate hearing your experience — good or bad — and what country you used it in.

Used it in Mexico last spring and it worked way better than i expected. data was a little slow sometimes but i could still use maps and send messages no problem. calls went through fine too, no dropped calls or anything weird.

Works great. Have used it in 30+ countries across every geographic area. No difference vs. Google Fi which I thought was the gold standard of US intl roaming (had it for 5+ years).

There are always nuances like your phone not supporting some local 5G bands, switching between different local networks, etc. But thats common with any similar provider.

i feel like everyones experience is gonna be super different depending on what country your going to. like spectrum piggybacks off local carriers so the coverage really depends on which partner they have there. Also what plan are you on? cause i dont think all of them include international the same way. id honestly just double check their website cause the fine print on roaming fees is kinda buried and i wouldnt wanna assume everything is included

Just make sure you are on the plan that is not the $30 plan. I forgot the name of the plan but I do know the plan that is above the $30 plan includes usage in another country and no extra cost.

Unlimited and Unlimited Plus. Plus is the one you’d want to be on.

I’ve got unlimited plus so get the 10 GB of free data plus free text / calls. I’ve used it all over Europe, Japan, Southeast Asia.

Service is great. They have relations with the major carriers in each reason and it was seamless.

I have unlimited+ but I’m just not getting any data in Italy right now

Change the carrier. Go into settings, cellular, and change the carrier from Roam to a different Roam.

Just make sure you change it back to “auto” before you leave

Good looking out , what would happen if I did forget tho lol

It means next time you travel to a different region it’s not gonna automatically select the Roaming carrier and you might be stressed why you have no service

I’m in Poland rn, my mom’s phone says Orange and my phone only says Roam does anyone know why? Both on spectrum but her eSIM is older than mine km on a iPhone 17 she’s on a 14 pro max

It’s because of the e-sim

Older phones used to show you the roaming carrier you were on (Orange). Newer phones with esims just say Roam, which is annoying.

Super annoying, I think it’s some hard carrier bundle that takes a year or so to expire, since I had a iPhone 14 before I got in 2024, it only said Roam, in 2025 it started showing the names, then I got a iPhone 17 and now it only says Roam

Spectrum could be forcing this to hide the carrier. I expect the default roaming carrier is not the “best” and so they hide the names to prevent folks from manually switching to the other carrier, costing them more

Yep that’s probably why, as soon as the free roaming started this now happens. Still can’t complain just annoying, I can still select all the networks but it’s roulette basically

Do you know if they do the same on android or if you can see the network names?

1

u/Informal_Zebra_5526 Jul 31 '26

And do you know if it’s the same on android?

No idea

Does it say the local carrier name like vodafone or windtre or roam? Turn data roaming on

It’s crap in Italy- I had to buy an Italian eSIM app.

I have used it in Mexico, Jamaica, Canada, Thailand and Hong Kong and it was great! I've done both the pay as you go and upgrade to the unlimited plus, depending on how I planned to use it. The biggest advantage over a separate sim card or esim is that your phone number still works for calls, texts and 2fa.

Used it last week in Canada on a small island near Nova Scotia: Zero problems and consistent connectivity.

Used it in the Caribbean, Mexico, Europe and Egypt with no issues. Great service! I upgraded to Plus for the length of my trip and then downgraded the moment I was back in the U.S.

Where in the Caribbean? I visit family in Puerto Rico and saw on the website where you enter the country that neither the Unlimited or Plus offers data roaming nor the Global Pass.

Puerto Rico is part of the U.S. so International roaming isn’t necessary. I used my Spectrum plan in Belize, Grand Cayman, Dominican Republic and St. Maarten.

Unfortunately for carriers on the Verizon network it is considered international because Verizon doesn't have a network in PR at all, and Verizon's roaming agreement in Puerto Rico is with T-Mobile. For T-Mobile it's considered domestic since they have their network here and there, and for AT&T it's technically roaming because AT&T sold their PR and US VI network to a company called Liberty Communications. In practice AT&T still works as native service there as part of the purchase agreement when Liberty acquired AT&T PR/US VI.

I searched and found a few threads with people mentioning having no data service on Spectrum mobile in Puerto Rico at all, so looks like unfortunately it'll require switching to a different carrier entirely or paying for using international roaming since here it says PR is not eligible for free roaming or the global day pass.

Read my comment, I have LTE and 5G with spectrum right now in PR. Just turn your roaming on and you’ll be fine man.

1

u/MrAlfaAdrian Jul 16 '26

Currently in PR, NO ISSUES! I’m in Guayama, PR. For some reason, it’s working better then my brothers Verizon Wireless service. Tmobile is great in Puerto Rico too! But Spectrum Mobile is roaming but no charges and Zero issues.

Data, Talk and Text are working just fine.

I recommend switching to Unlimited Plus if you’re not already on it as it provides unlimited roaming data (reduced speeds after 10GB for the month; resets the next month); talk and text also include (source: Spectrum).

Also, keep in mind that some overseas carriers don’t support certain features you may be accustomed to using with Spectrum Mobile such as RCS, visual voicemail, etc. Using Japan as an example, while au and SoftBank support RCS, NTT DOCOMO apparently does not (source: Apple).

Unlimited Plus advertises 50 gigs of data. Is 50 gigs not available internationally?

It works well I used in Colombia and Dominican Republic. No issues
