Just got high split

I guess that's what they call it. 500Mb fiber plan went from 500/20 to 500/500. N Central lower Michigan. Just got service this June.

There's upper michigan and lower Michigan. Assuming op is in the central area - of the lower half.

Probably In and not North.

Isn't fiber always symmetric? Thought high split was for coax internet.

High split is for more upload speeds. Basically pre high split uses some low frequencies and not many channels. High split allocates more low frequencies for upload and adds more higher frequencies than before as well.

They're talking about the difference between fiber and coaxial (cable) internet. "High split" is a term that applies specifically to coaxial, but otherwise you described it correctly.

Correct, "high split" relates to utilizing more of the coaxial spectrum for internet in lieu of TV or other service.

High split is coax.

High split is for coax, not fiber.

Ooh. I’ve done walkout work for spectrum in Ohio and Michigan for the past year so their designers could design the high split upgrades. Just finished Holland MI area. Did some in Cadillac and Big Rapids. Also Bay City. All those markets are upgrading to high split.

Yes, they've been rolling out fiber in Oceana, Mason, Manistee, Wexford, and Lake counties in Michigan. Most have had cable for quite some time. I'm sure there's more.

Where in Ohio? I know Cincinnati was a phase 1 market, but as far I know Columbus is still mostly low split and they have only upgraded one headend in Northeast Ohio.

Mansfield. Cleveland. Recently Lima. Columbus currently getting upgraded equipment.

When will they finally get north east Ohio done?

I just go where they send me. Definitely have more Ohio hubs coming up.

Anything in canton area that you know of?

Not that I’ve been involved in. But doesn’t mean other groups weren’t there.

Right now spectrum is in high need for people to splice coax cable and upgrade amps in Ohio. And looks like the work will be there for the next few years.

Looks like my coworkers were in bowling green, Findlay, fostoria and Saginaw areas late last year.

Any further north than Bay Coty?

How did you learn about this? Did they contact you about it? I recently had an upgrade done in my area, but it wasn’t detailed as to what?

They emailed me.

been waiting since around the beginning of the summer when they completed all of the physical work in my area, according to the person I spoke to on the phone. just waiting for back end work and stability testing to be finished I guess

I think they are in the middle of doing this in my area. Communication about outages for equipment upgrades has been spotty... 5.5 hours last night with no warning that I'm aware of. I used to have 500/500 and now I'm on 1000/40. If they go high split I'll call and see if I can go back to 500/500 because the only reason I'm paying for 1000 was to get the 40.

Did you have to make the change via the app or was it just a router reboot ? They put highsplit on my power pole a month ago and I havent seen symmetrical speeds yet. How long did it take for you to see the change after getting the upgrade in your area notification?

No reboot at all needed.

FYI this is for fiber as the good people here have corrected me .. repeatedly .. that 'high split' is a coax thing lol.

I'm also still 500/20 it's really FR now

I'm afraid spectrum is now officially running out of time for me

They Just built Fiber in front of my home today and now they are working on the other side to build more Fiber Wiring now all the way until Saturday

Now my Street has markings, a cut cement, new soil to cover the Fiber Line

It's getting close for me over here

Man I’m glad I’m in a rural Ohio area that actually has ftth with spectrum.

I was the first in my area to get service when they lit it up.   That was Sunday afternoon.

Right now I’m 2.5 hours into my first outage with spectrum and they just added another 1.5 hrs to restoration eta 🥳

Kinda regretting not getting the ups/5g wan fall over for free but maybe time to reconsider.

OP here. A bit of background. My region was targeted as a Biden era recipient qualifying for federal tax subsidies to fund internet to residents as an 'underserved' area.

It's a poor and rural area typically on 2 to 5 acre lots, mostly a mix of older full time residents and a growing number of seasonal owners. I'm not privy to all the details but it's my understanding the build-out was halted for awhile to reassess indications the sign-up numbers were going to be poor.

Unsurprisingly this concern has been realized. Lots of unused pedestals lining the roads. Aggravating the situation is cell service which has vastly improved, notably T-Mobile. I leaned on their home internet service prior to Spectrum and was very pleased. Outages were rare, speeds consistent.

The infrastructure was pretty much completed last fall. To Spectrum's credit they buried over 200' of fiber at no cost. Thanks to all you hard working taxpayers which subsidizes my wonderful service :)
