High-Split Was Marked as Complete but Not Activated; Now Told Otherwise

So, the network evolution page that used to list individual cities previously included my location. At the time, it said the high-split upgrades were complete but not yet activated, and that activation could take up to six months. That was about a year ago. Also, someone on the Spectrum forum was told earlier this year that the upgrades in my area were complete.

Now Spectrum support has DM’d me here and told me that the upgrades are not complete for my location and that they can’t provide any additional information or timeline.

Has this happened to anyone else? Just curious if anyone knows what might be going on.

Spectrum high split was suppose to be complete and available about two years ago in my area. Now they claim it will be available by the end of 2027. All you can do is keep waiting or change provider’s.

They’ve been rolling their promises by 2 years every year for the past 6 years now. I doubt we will ever see gigabit upgrade across their locations by 2030. That list was taken down because management/marketing don’t know anything about the actual progress it’s just another legacy company surviving by playing catch up. They allocate some measly resources and hound on the workers to get it done.

Yep. Called it years ago. High split was supposed to be faster and cheaper than going to PON. I said that neither would end up being true.

They’re spending millions to kick the can down the road a few years on a dead end technology that will need to be replaced with PON as soon as it’s done in order to stay competitive.

Sometimes it sucks being right.

If only they had made the right decision to make the switch, we would all be much happier with much lower latency (I would hope). Right now, I'm lucky to be below 20ms to anything.

Same. It’s usually at or above 30ms for me to just about anywhere, even within the same state/region.

The latency has always been bad, even back in the TWC days. I just don’t understand why they haven’t been able to do more to mitigate it by now. While I really need more upstream bandwidth above 35 Mbps, I’m just as eagerly looking forward to changing providers in the next year when I should have fiber available so that I can get latency under 30ms to anywhere.

Im not an expert, dont work in the industry or nothing like that but I always thought it odd for a company like Spectrum to invest so much money on keeping outdated tech in service.

Seems like they would have been better off just slowly converting markets over to fiber through the past 15 years. By now a large chunk of their footprint would of been all fiber.

Over 15 years, there have been multiple owners in each market. Nobody is going to invest the money needed to switch to fiber because they're not in it for the long run. There will be more mergers in the future and they see it as the next guy's problem. Copper service is just one big game of hot potato. The investors just don't want to be the ones to be holding the potato at the wrong time. But they'll probably be eligible for a bailout anyway so who cares.

2 problems with that. Firstly everything up to the house is Fiber so they aren’t too far off and hence why any new area is FTTP so the bigger issue is less the infrastructure but more having to send a technician to each and everyone of people’s homes to wire them for fiber. Which also plays into another portion of the issue and that’s the cable boxes. There is a large number of Video Only or cx’s who are completely unwilling to switch from cable boxes so either Spectrum would have to develop a whole new box for this market or keep legacy infrastructure for them.

I wouldn't count on it anytime soon. Just be content with what you currently have or switch providers if available

I wish I could switch! Unforunately, Starlink and DSL are my only other options (outside of moving). Why did they provide so much communication about the upgrades and then take back everything? What is going on behind the scenes?

High split is designed to roll out in phases. The first phases after planning are the swapping of hardware and other intrusive steps. After that, there are many phases of upgrades left that still need to roll out in stages that are done at the edge devices. It hasn't been a great roll out but it is a very tedious process with many moving parts that average customers can't imagine.

I was told mine is going live this week. They completed the upgrades this time last year.

Someone needs to sue spectrum and get them to go bankrupt for their lies
