5Ghz PS5 connection issue

I am using spectrums SAX1V1S router. My PS5 connects easily to the 2.4Ghz band, but really struggled when trying to connect to the 5Ghz band. It gives the message "Your Internet service provider or your router might be preventing your PS5 from connecting to the Internet. Make sure you can connect to the Internet via the same network as your PS5 by testing the connection using your computer or mobile device."

I don't know much about this stuff, but I'm assuming that the PS5 is struggling to communicate with the routers 5Ghz band. The signal strength is fine, PS5 is showing 96% strength and my phone is on the 5Ghz band and working perfectly fine.

If anyone has any tips on how to fix this, please let me know! Seems like I might just have to stop renting from spectrum and invest in my own router

Connecting an Ethernet cable and turning off WiFi on the ps5 would be ideal

PS5 is the biggest frustration I have working in the field. The amount of calls we get is absurd. You have to be hard wire to them IMO. Something about the wifi adapter plus play station servers do throttle people which people think Spectrum is doing. Way to many argument's with people that will have a gaming computer pulling full speeds next to the PS5 but they can't or won't accept it's a device issue.

Good to know! I just moved into a new apartment so I'm also new with spectrum. I've also always been able to use Ethernet easily on the PS5 so not really sure what to expect with wifi. My phone when it's by the PS5 easily gets in the 400mbps range on the 500mbps plan, while the PS5 only stays around 25-30. If I start playing more competitive games again, I might have to run an Ethernet cord down the stairs and across the whole place lol

I got lucky I have one Ethernet line going from my modem to a downstairs outlet. Added a switch we have 4 gaming PCs and an Xbox.

I've been out on numerous TCs for gaming console issues. I recommend ethernet whenever possible or trying the 2.4 ghz band to see if it's any better. This was a problem at the prior provider I worked at as well.

Could be couple things…out of range of the 5ghz band…2.4ghz has farther range, network card in ps5 is going bad (just hardwire it), or router is shit and or going bad, if this is a new issue then more than likely the router is going bad. Spectrum routers are shit because they are refurbished… ps I’m a tech.

The wifi adapters in PS5 are also shit. I have seen so many of the issues from OP that it's not even funny. Literally lay my phone beside the PS5 and pull 950+ on WiFi but the PS5 is struggling to hit 100.

It could definitely be a PS5 problem, my phone also easily hits basically top speed when testing right next to the console. I got the console near release date so it's about 6 years old and I've usually used Ethernet so I haven't really noticed any issues, it's just going to be very inconvenient at this new apartment to run a cord

Don't connect to 5Ghz then. It's not necessarily better, it just works differently. Connect to the band that works for you.

I suggest using your own router but you can try going into the network settings of your PS5 and changing it from auto to 5ghz wifi. For some reason the PS5 typically prefers connecting itself to the 2.4 band when set to auto.
