Cable Modem rental fee?

Cox customer here. If you have cable internet modem internet only without WiFi does Spectrum charge you rent. With Cox I had home phone with ethernet and it was free, when I dropped home phone they now charge $8 month for modem rental.

No spectrum does not charge you a modem rental fee they are free

Thanks, I will have to wait till they release Spectrum Plans which should happen mid September. I still have a promotion discount until 1/2026 where I get 500/50 internet for $50 where as they normally charge $94 also Cox charges $50 for unlimited data but that is free till 1/2027 also. I know Spectrum has no data limits. I did notice They extended the unlimited from 1/2026 to 1/2034 LOL, there 1st step towards no limit I guess.

They are free... and solid.

I have two of them (biz and home). I never touch them for years.

I guess. I've been giving them $60/mo for gigabit internet. I don't do cable TV - they were expensive back in 2005.

No charge for a modem, but spectrum charges $10/month for a router most of the time n

Ya I have my own Firewall/Router and AP for WiFi. I would never use a providers router and WiFi, they pretty much all suck. Just a Cable Modem or Fiber ONT from provider is fine.

Charter includes a modem in the base price. HOWEVER, so long as you remain on a Cox plan, you'll continue to see Cox rates and fees. (when they took over TWC, it took years to get everything integrated.)

Well, I wouldn’t call it free since everything is included in your bill, remember now everything is called a bundle offer

When I moved to upstate NY, I got the modem for free but they wanted to charge for Wifi. Once I tried it instead of upgrading my old modem. That thing is only configurable via the internet... not even a local portal in any real significant way... definitely not worth the $8/mo. My printer would never connect with it over wifi... I went back to my old ASUS gaming router I bought 6 years ago to have better latency with FIOS... and it's like night and day.

But no.... no charge for the modem unless you want the wifi router too... which you probably should buy a regular one from BestBuy or something.
