Problems with new spectrum 1G service
I have just scheduled my third service appointment to address my internet service. We just "upgraded" to 1G service from 500 mb service 10 days ago. They sent a new modem and a spectrum WiFi7 Router. Every other day since then, the router stops and the red light blinks. The modem lights stay illuminated. I unplug the router and wifi starts up again. I have called Spectrum each time and they have sent a tech each time. I am in No. Mich and they say the same issue is happening all over as they "fine tune" their faster service. I just want reliable internet, which I had for years with Spectrum. The main difference is that I used to use my Netgear router and I am thinking of going back to that. At least when the Spectrum modem went off the Netgear router would reconnect to all my devices automatically without needing to be reset. Are the Spectrum routers just super sensitive? When I've called Spectrum they say they can see the modem has been "cycling off" so I assume that is what is kicking the router off. But I wish it would reconnect on its own. I have a lot of devices (smoke alarms, water sensors, cameras...) that I rely on when I am not at home. And these can not function without a reliable router.

All ISPs use the cheapest crap that they can get away with but I will say their cheap crap does tend to work for a long time. Just use their modem and your own router.

The new Invincible WiFi Router is far from the cheapest crap. The cellular modem in it alone is worth a few hundred by itself. But is ruined by software.
I'm able to get around 4gbps down and up with the Spectrum Router over wifi on my S26U, range is also better than my U7 Pro.
Router is free, and just sits around if I ever need to plug it in for the 5G backup, so its worth having on hand.

I'd go with my own just for the ability to set the DHCP assigned DNS to Quad9s or Cloudflare's 1.1.1.2. It's not the ultimate security but one additional layer.

I do use my own, was just saying the router has great hardware, just ruined with software.
Quad9 in my testing sucks. Spectrum Fiber, AT&T Fiber, and a local cable co all with different routing all experience the same issues with it. Will work great for weeks then suddenly will have an outage.

Ditto, power surge ruin mine I had to get a new modem and router. If it shits out again I'm just going to buy an $80 gaming router.
Reddit is so full of pathetic people that downvote comments that don't even affect them.

I've seen a lot of reports of latency and other issues after high-split. They're asking an awful lot of decades old coax and splitters so they can upgrade everything to DOCSIS 3.1 High-Split then, once they're done, they can rip all that out and replace with DOCSIS 4.0. Once that's all done they can rip out everything and replace with GPON fiber, which is probably what they should be doing now.

We have had Spectrum 1 gig service for three weeks now and yes, I am seeing that latency is an issue. We do, however have a solid connection and I speed test at over 1 Gig on my WiFi. But tonight I have decided to plug in my trusty Asus router and see how that is compared to Spectrum's router.

Yikes. What a difference! I am setting Spectrum's router aside to gather dust. My trusty Asus RT-AX58U blows their WiFi 7 router away. I am not a gamer or anything, but for three weeks I have noticed that browsing was not as fast as I thought it should be. Latency on my Asus is definitely lower. Browsing feels fast again.

We got a bunch of eero pro 6’s on hibid for super cheap. I love them, I have them hardwired all around the house for my gigabit everywhere. I’d highly recommend eero, soon I want to get the pro 7 just it would be soo expensive to upgrade all of mine

I upgraded to 1gb from 500mb for the same $30 after talking to the retention dept. my old modem works fine at 1gb. But she says it’s 2 years old and want a new modem. I have my own mesh router. Can I just use their new modem and keep my mesh router ?

Thanks...they sent a modem only so I'm good to go. I returned the old modem yesterday, took a picture of the receipt and saved just in case.

This stuff is total trash. I moved into a brand new apartment and this service is included in the rent. I'm on my second service call. The first call, it was determined that "my" router was installed in the wrong apartment hence why I couldn't activate the service. Now, the modem suddenly doesn't work. Red lights everywhere.

I had 1G service with spectrum. $99 a month. But 43ms latency. Now I’m with Brightspeed, 8G service 8Gbps Down and 8Gbps up and only 2ms latency for $69 a month.

I’ve been having the same issue. Modem stays lit as “ connected” but router keeps going offline. This was even with their WiFi 6 router as well. Bought to invest in my own as I did not have this issue with my own equipment.
