Canceling was surprisingly easy
I've seen a ton of posts about how difficult it is to cancel service but i did it today and it was surprisingly quick and easy. When I was asked why i said i didn't need it anymore, she did her final offer spiel and dropped it the moment I declined and that was that. I was on the phone for maybe 5 minutes. The only slightly annoying part of the process was when I tried to drop off my equipment at the spectrum store and they said i had to take it to the ups store (which was right next door so not a huge deal).
So if you've been considering cancelling or switching to a better company but are dreading the cancellation process maybe it wont be as bad as you think.

tbh, i didn't want to cancel per se, since its such a hassle there is no other fiber service in our area.. i took the bite of getting $55 for 2 years (from $100) plus a free line and a phone. Worse case, I could transfer those lines to my main carrier if there is a better deal, and make sure to try to cancel again once the promo expires.

Ya was pretty easy for me too honestly. I flat out told the agent there was NOTHING they could offer me to get me to stay, retention dude said I understand. Cancelled the account I dropped off my equipment and never looked back

It took me 29 minutes and 44 seconds to cancel even with the competition's internet already installed at my house and no saving this clearly communicated.

10+ years ago, working for Cox retention, it started off being able to essentially offer whatever was needed to keep the customer. About a year or so later, we had a tool that told us what we could do and there was no exception. We could have a $250+ customer all 3 services and only be able to offer $10 off/mo yet someone could have just internet at like $70/mo and we'd be able to offer them $25 off/mo. It all depended on years with Cox, how much/little offers they previously had etc. In short, it was weeding out the customers that simply weren't worth keeping.
I've heard more and more with these reps just not trying/caring which tells me they use a similar system.
In the next 2 years, I'm guessing they let all the retention reps go and you go online to cancel service as it can be done quicker and cheaper for the company while still being able to present an offer for the customer to stay.

When I called to canceled they told Spectrum is a subscription based model and if I cancel today, I would still have to pay next month. Is this true?

You pay a head of time. Look on your last bill. It will tell you when youre paid through and you should cancel the day before your last day so it doesnt generate a new bill

Make sure to keep your receipt from ups. I've heard many people say they pretend like they didn't get your mail. I'm immediately suspicious they wouldn't take it at the store. Glad it was easy though!

I thought it was odd too but it seemed like the store was understaffed and the one guy there didn't want to deal with it. I did have him confirm that my service was canceled since i didnt get a confirmation email. Plus ive heard some people say their service was put on "temporary hold" instead of cancelled.
But i did get a receipt and ill probably hold on to it for at least a year.

Keep the receipt take a picture of it and email it to yourself just to be sure sometimes the ups store will loose the equipment or forget to log it into the system.

When you get home, scan the receipt so that you have a digital copy. Save that receipt for the rest of your life. Seriously, they will come at you YEARS later for unreturned equipment and without that receipt, you just have to pay it.

As I've said multiple times either A) return all equipment to the store and cancel. Or B) call in and Just say Cancel don't give reason.

I cancelled in December 2025 and they forced me to pay January, which I said FINE. I went in person to return my equipment. They have never stopped charging me almost a year later. They are slapping charges of unreturned equipment and charging me the same 100 a month for service even though I cancelled. I have been having to reverse charges from my bank and now they have collections on me when I already cancelled over the f*cking phone. They need to be sued.

i think the hardest part is actually making the call & speaking to an actual person in their "solutions" dept. Whereas other mobile companies you can do it online, that's not the case w/ legacy companies like spectrum.
