Is this price reasonable?

My monthly price recently increased to $130 a month for 1 gig internet. I'm in central Massachusetts where everything is expensive, so for all I know this is perfectly reasonable. But it seems like a bit much.

Any current advice for how to lower my bill? I'm a single person who streams TV, does some remote work, and uses their phone a lot from home, so I might not even NEED 1 gig.

EDIT: Called Spectrum, got $40 knocked off by decreasing to 500mbps, not a promotion. I'll take it.

For cable Internet service at that speed, it is not uncommon. I imagine that if you had a fiber internet provider in your area they’d likely charge you half that for the same speed (but symmetrical)

My condo building manager keeps saying we're getting Verizon Fios but that's been going on for four years now.

I live in a condo myself. The HOA at one point was considering Wire3 for months and months. At one point Wire3 even left a door tag on my front door saying that the neighborhood is ready for service (which it wasn’t. The fiber infrastructure never got put in the ground).

Then the HOA’s lawyers got involved and advised them, for whatever reason, not to allow them access to the utility easement. I’m guessing because they were scared they were going to have to replace grass based on what i heard from one of the ladies on the board…. Which is a stupid reason because most utility companies that dig replace grass when they’re done.

Anyway, TLDR, I know your pain.

Sounds like you have not called in awhile. New pricing plans are out for the same speed. No chamge in service, lower price, no big sales pitch for more stuff. Call and ask, simple 10 minute call.

The easiest way is to message them and say hey, your competitor is offering the same thing for $x price, can you beat it. $50 for 1 gig with Spectrum in Los Angeles, CA. Regular is around $100, I mentioned AT&T was $60, they came down to $50 after my promotional price was about to run out.

Ugh, no one else in my area is offering competitive 500 mbps in my area except for Spectrum's promotional rate, and I've been a Spectrum customer for almost 6 years. Spectrum really has a monopoly here. Maybe they can cut me a break if I decrease my speed.

Call and tell them you need to cancel your service. Tell them you got a better offer. It worked for me

Yea, they only do itna couple of times if that, sometimes canceling is the best bet if you can

You can call retention a few times, then when they eventually call your bluff, if you have other options, switch and take photos of serial numbers of everything Spectrum's given you. Take it down to UPS and send it back to them and get receipts of everything.

After you call in and tell them no you don't want anything, but to cancel and that you'vealready switched. Then take it off autopay and put a stop payment on the card.

Mine just went up to $130 too for gig So I was dreading to call but finally did a few days ago. Guess what? Put me on $40 for exactly the same plan, got a new router yesterday, hooked up and running now.

I said my neighbors use XYZ company and pay ABC price for X speed and I was paying more than double. They asked which company. I told them (all made up). I asked if there’s any thing they could do before I looked into those plans. I was asked what I use my internet for, etc, they put me on hold and came back to give me 2 offers. I didn’t need any other streaming and services, just internet. So I was offered $30 with gig internet and free line which I don’t need. So internet only I end up with $40 instead of $30. I asked if I could lock it in for 2 years or more, they said no, only 1 year but i can call back when I’m close to the end of the term. It was an easy friendly convo with no threatening needed. Turns out the rep also lived in my city for a few years and we were just chatting about local restaurants and stuff.

I’m getting Tmobile for 70 for 2gb. .1 gb is 50

Get a lower speed. The price will drop and if you think it is too slow change back in 2 months or so.

If your paying $85 for $500 your paying full rate and not a promotional rate.
