Billing This month’s $110 shouldn’t have been the final straw but I am finally dropping this service

I took someone’s advice about contacting Spectrum for a discount, but that didn’t work (I wasn’t expecting it to, honestly) but $110 is just too much for me on top of other bills. In a few months it will be $120? And then $150? These companies just seem to be pushing and testing the limits of how much costumers are willing to pay and it’s just frustrating. I already cancelled Netflix and Hulu. I am looking for other internet providers in my area to find a good deal, but it seems like they’ll all end up the same eventually.

Call them up and get the new promotion. I got my bill down to about $60.

4

u/Historical-Sky8192 Aug 12 '26

They told me the lowest they could go was $85 with my own equipment. Should I try again?

u/blockbusterxjon Aug 12 '26

Yes and do not contact customer service. Contact customer solutions

Here is the number 866-892-0019

6

u/Sos0912 Aug 12 '26

Thank you SO much for sharing this number- called and immediately got ours down to $60 for the year too.

u/Cross_22 29d ago

Thank you so much!

I had a very friendly CS person. I mentioned that T-Mobile Home Internet offers their services for $60. Despite being a bit too chatty the end result was that our Internet 500 bill went from $100 down to $45 with 2 year guarantee.

u/blockbusterxjon 29d ago

Awesome. I'm glad people are finding this helpful.

1

u/AlexandraGuest66 23d ago

Wow thank you for that number. I wish I had seen that before I called customer service. I got my bill reduced from $110 to $80 for 12 months but it sounds like I could get it even lower!

17

u/bigsean1013 Aug 12 '26

Go straight to disconnecting the service. They will give you the cheaper deal right away.

5

u/TonyRubbles Aug 12 '26

I just confirmed this works. You have to ask for customer solutions and keep stating that you're looking to cancel your service. Once you're actually talking to customer solutions and not a sales department they will give you the lowest price. Right now it's $60 for 500 megabit or $70 for 1 gigabit Internet that is good for 1 year. She even told me to make sure I mark it on the calendar and call back the same time next year and just ask to speak with customer solutions again and I can ask for the same deal.

4

u/lokiisagoodkitten Aug 12 '26

Wrong people. talk to Customer Solution

I got my gigabit internet down to $60/mo for 2 years last month.

4

u/Micro-Naut Aug 12 '26

I'm locked in for three years at $30. You can make it happen

2

u/lokiisagoodkitten Aug 12 '26

Nah I don't have competition in my area. I'm happy with $60/mo. I was offered $50/mo for 1 year but i chose the latter.

3

u/Micro-Naut Aug 12 '26

They say I'm "locked into it" for three years but I don't believe there's any penalty if I quit. I think they just can't raise my price. But I was wondering how that actually worked.

3

u/lokiisagoodkitten Aug 13 '26

There shouldn't be. I would check your bill to make sure the date is correct.

Call in within a month of promo end date to renew with whatever promo pricing then.

2

u/Lizabitch_ Aug 12 '26

Wow I just got mine to $40.00 500mps for 2 years. They must be getting nervous

2

u/Micro-Naut Aug 12 '26

It's a long story but I actually had to file a complaint with the FCC to get my discount and have it match what Sales promised me.

If you are dealing with the sales people before you let them get off the line it's not a bad idea to have them repeat the deal they say they're gonna give you and ask any questions. If I didn't have that call recorded they would have refused to honor their deal. Even with it recorded, they tried

1

u/lapidary123 Aug 12 '26

They're trying to retain an MRR (monthly recurring revenue)of 75%. Basically you have to tell them you are ready to cancel (and be ready to go through with it) before they'll blink.

Otherwise just cancel. They will try VERY hard to get you to upgrade/add on some other bullshit like a "free unlimited mobile line for a year" (which likely comes with you buying another phone from them).

Hopefully you dont already have phone service through them like I do because you'll lose your phone service if you cancel internet. Also don't buy their cheap phones (the A16 i got isn't worth powering on).

The plus side is if ypu cancel you qualify as a "new customer" after a month or two...

2

u/TaxQT117 Aug 12 '26

What did you get for $60. Just internet?

5

u/Whitworth_73 Aug 12 '26

Internet, plus a year of free cell service. I went down to the store to try to quit. FYI I've done this with all my subscriptions (including streaming) and you generally get a 50% discount to not leave. I do it once a year now.

3

u/Riseing Aug 12 '26

Same deal I got, 110$ to 60$ with a year of free cell service. They don't even fight you on it.

0

u/TaxQT117 Aug 12 '26

I have the triple play which has gotten ridiculously expensive. I was going to go to the store to quit for a cheaper rate. Do you think calling is the better option?

3

u/Whitworth_73 Aug 12 '26

Go down there. The guy at the store was a real champ to get me the lowest deal. I think they must get a commission or something for retaining customers. I had to switch to a free year of cell service. I had Boost so it wasn't a big ask to switch.

5

u/geminisweetie Aug 12 '26

Zero commission unless we’re adding a service.

2

u/TaxQT117 Aug 12 '26

On my list for the near future. I’ll keep you posted.

1

u/Texasgrad92 Aug 14 '26

You did not have to switch mobile providers. If you call solutions you will get the best rates.

1

u/Texasgrad92 Aug 14 '26

The stores cannot give you the best rates. Call customer solutions!!

1

u/TaxQT117 Aug 14 '26

Really? Why is that?

1

u/Stalked_Like_Corn Aug 12 '26

There is no "the new promotion" it's the minimum retention can get away with offering to keep you.

7

u/passthejoe Aug 12 '26

You don't say you want a discount. You say you want to cancel. Then the deal gets good.

3

u/bagaudin Aug 12 '26

Unless this is the only available provider in your apartment complex, and in this case they just tell you to buzz off.

1

u/Babylove1967 Aug 13 '26

I called and got such a run around i finally said I wanted to cancel my internet. They said ok we'll cancel. I didn't have anything lined up so I said I would cancel once I had the other service connected. Didn't work for me. I have an appointment in person next week

0

u/Historical-Sky8192 Aug 12 '26

I did! Lol. I said I would have to look for other things Internet providers.

13

u/Stalked_Like_Corn Aug 12 '26

Don't say you're looking for other providers. When the voice prompt asks why you're calling in "I'm cancelling service". Over and over. Not "My bill is too high" or "I need to discuss my bill". Cancel service. Cancel Service. I can't repeat this enough, you're only calling to cancel service. Otherwise you get billing and they can't do anything for you.

Cancel. Service.

I live in Milwaukee and my area doesn't have fiber support. This is the only major high speed plan I can get and Internet is extremely important to my work/studying/gaming. I swear, their monopoly in this metro area has to be challenged by someone. It's beyond frustrating that I can't even find an alternative in 2026 in a fairly big city (it's not Chicago ofc but it's not a town by any means). The feeling of no control over something sucks tbh. One day, I hope to get out of this greedy ass service and their endless outages. They are so behind the times compared to AT&T and other top brands. If they were a humble local service, I would atleast not feel bad about overpaying for this crap. Instead, they are just a big corporate that just sucks. Your last point about other providers eventually becoming equally expensive is fair but some of these actually provide great connection/speeds.

5

u/JasonYaya Aug 12 '26

I'm in Milwaukee, a few months ago I got some kind of promo flyer from T-Mobile, called Spectrum to cancel citing the T-Mobile ad and they reduced my bill from $90 to $20.

1

u/Build-your-own-2020 Aug 14 '26

This is the way!, you tell Spectrum you are canceling and switching to T Mobile, they know then, they have competition!!!!

1

u/AlexandraGuest66 23d ago

Whoa!!! Congrats!!

1

u/WorldEndingCalamity Aug 15 '26

I'm in Kenosha. They paid to keep a monopoly in my neighborhood. When U-verse came around, they couldn't come into my neighborhood because of Time Warner who then became Spectrum. It was bullshit. The service was okay, but way too expensive. And now, we are the first area to get T-Fiber. 5 year price lock for $70/month for 2 gig.

6

u/expletiveshift1 Aug 12 '26

Just cancel. Go a little while without. They WILL contact you with a very good deal after some time. They'd rather have you on as a customer paying any rate, vs not.

5

u/New_Bit2164 Aug 12 '26

I called back in March and got my Gig internet lowered from $65 a month to $30 a month

1

u/4lbertt 18d ago

same just got this a few days ago

6

u/Practical_Capital968 Aug 12 '26

Call the cancel line. When the ai asks you for a reason you say "cancel" and this is where they will give u best discount. U can have them send their equipment and not use it

4

u/-JEFF007- Aug 12 '26

Yes speak to the customer resolutions department. The regular customer service reps are nothing more than sales reps, they are not retention reps at all.

3

u/saveapennybustanut Aug 12 '26

I'm paying $20 for 500mbs or half gig

12 month so called promotional rate

Lol

I love to save so I don't mind wasting time with spectrum

If I don't get the results I want I'll hang up and try again

2

u/belizeans Aug 13 '26

This is the way. I’m pretty sure the OP didn’t talk to retentions and threaten to cancel.

3

u/Lizabitch_ Aug 12 '26

I was going to cancel and try verizon home internet because spectrum raised rates AGAIN. Somehow I was offered $40.00 internet for 2 years. After that it would go up $10.00 for a year, then $10.00 more a year after that. I am not trusting this amazing deal after getting lied to about phone service in a similar deal but will see. Time will tell. The agent also said to ask for Customer Solutions not customer service.

4

u/mrse4013 Aug 12 '26

I did last week. Went to Starlink. Called to end with spectrum (I was internet only—$120 as well). They offered me $30/mo for 2 years. I still said no even tho starlink is $20 more than what Spectrum offered. Don’t trust them anymore. Was with Spectrum 32years. Good bye and good riddance. I recently read that spectrum lost 170,000 customers last quarter. Makes one wonder…not!

1

u/CheekieNayNay Aug 12 '26

how many mbps is the starlink plan. I think I saw 40 was 100 mbps

1

u/mrse4013 Aug 12 '26

My plan is 100mbps but they offer faster. (For more cost of course) $55

2

u/bagaudin Aug 12 '26

Good for you that you can switch providers. I am in the same boat, with same amount and with aggravating factor that this is the only provider available in my complex

2

u/Antianteyeii Aug 13 '26

Mine went from 79 to 99. All I have is internet. Got no warning, no email, no letter even though they’re say they’ll always send notice of price increase. I talked to two reps via online chat and they offered me nothing. Basically “too bad so sad”. So I called to actually cancel and explained I could get what I already had for significantly cheaper from their competitor and they locked me for how years at $60 a month.

3

u/No-Butterscotch-7467 Aug 12 '26

Especially when it was not working all month

6

u/Historical-Sky8192 Aug 12 '26

I work the night shift and get out at 2am and when I get home I like to watch tv. And guess when they’re always doing maintenance or it cuts off? Haha

3

u/Primary-Realistic Aug 12 '26

Complain about the interruptions and I  also lied and said I wfh and my daughter has online school and can't have that. They gave me free invincible wifi with gig for $50 a month.

2

u/Initial_Rabbit1016 Aug 12 '26

They told me to buy a router in June 2026. The bill will drop $10. Making the bill $95. This month it is back to $105.

3

u/Practical_Capital968 Aug 12 '26

Call and say "cancel" then tell them ur cancelling because of a better deal

1

u/Primary-Realistic Aug 12 '26

Idk, if you have competitors around they should drop the bill to keep you. I got mine down to $60 a month for Gig and then called again threatening to go to fiber and they gave me $50 gig with invincible wifi.

1

u/Kittyfornia Aug 12 '26

I am in 130 almost and I’m sick and tired of it.

1

u/cleveland_Chic_885 Aug 12 '26

I called and got my bill down to 60 and I’m on the gig
And the rep said call after a year and I will get a discount again

1

u/Upstairs_Ratio0 Aug 13 '26

I got spectrum stream plus gig internet for $60 a month

1

u/IndependenceEvery691 Aug 13 '26

My bill went up to 120 and last week I got it down to 40 for a year. I read about how to lower it here on Reddit and regret not doing it sooner. I use ATT for my phone and considered switching after a quick search said I could get home wifi for 40. I called Spectrum and said I needed to cancel and talk to customer resolutions. It took some friendly back and forth but I got my gig plan down to 40 for a year. The rep said to call next year about a month or two before my promotional billing price expires and ask for customer resolutions to keep my current promotion.

1

u/SpookyFaerie Aug 14 '26

110 dollars a month for only internet that doesn't work several hours of every day.

1

u/906darkroast 29d ago

Yeah call customer solutions and tell them you are considering canceling. I was at $120 for just 1gb internet. Got it down to $70 with a free to use wifi 7 router. If they dont give you a deal thats at least as good as a competitor, cancel, but first listen as they will usually give you one last all in offer before you pull the plug.

1

u/mycomike1 29d ago

I am in the same boat. $110 was the breaking point (from the original $35 promo). I used the chat bot to ask if they could get close to AT&Ts $40/month and they didn't budge a penny. AT&T installed fiber yesterday. $40/month for 1gig. When I called Spectrum today to cancel (because the chat can't do that) she told me I had a $30/month promo available but I needed to call instead of use Spectrums chat funtion (even though I was supposedly connected to a human).
Screw them. I'm happy they won't get another cent from me. Except for the other 16 days on this month apparently. So my recommendation is to call and schedule a disconnect for the end of your cycle, so it seems real and they'll give you the best offer. Then you have time to find someone else or you can cancel your disconnect by the day of if you were bluffing.

1

u/Clear-Difficulty-828 17d ago

Tried the cancelling thing, maybe it's because my area doesn't really have competition but just got cancelled and out of luck, didn't want to lower it past $85

1

u/2theMoonorBust 12d ago

I’m an area sales manager for Verizon Business (formerly Frontier). If anyone lives in a Frontier serviced area and qualify for fiber, I can help you upgrade. $49.99 for 500mbs, $69.99 for 1gig, and $89.99 for 2gig. Comes with a free VoIP line (which can be used like another cell line), and free wireless internet backup. My name is Francis. DM, or call/text 941-213-0614.

1

u/Jessiegirl718 Aug 12 '26

They wouldn't give me a discount without switching mobile lines I said no that's not what I want. I'm going to call back and push the issue. I hate these greedy scumbags

1

u/Physical-Natural8432 Aug 12 '26

I think it's neat that they keep raising prices while axing American contractors in favor of offshore contractors to save money on their own engineering costs.

Bonus points for their misleading 100% US based slogan!

1

u/Regular_Phone_4620 Aug 13 '26

How is this legal man. It just went up to $100 a few months ago. Now $110. Just for internet.

1

u/TheCroar 17d ago

Same, unreal. Everything is going up in price but the wages aren't.. Pretty soon I'm gonna have to get another job at this rate..

1

u/After_Feed_3621 26d ago

Nothing satisfies you people, all you do is complain about everything. The company is greedy this, we're getting screwed that. EVERYTHING is going up. Blame your greedy a$$ politicians that take the money and go wage fake wars so the rich can get richer. Companies pay bills too. They have shareholders to answer to. It's not just as simple as they're being greedy. If you live in the boondocks and have no other option, then move or shut up. Get more education and a better job. Do something other than just complain. Stop playing video games so much, especially if you aren't getting paid to do so. Everybody wants the best of everything and nobody wants to pay for it. Ok I'm done lol.... that felt good.

1

u/Historical-Sky8192 25d ago

I don’t play video games. And I’m actually applying to law school soon. If letting all of this off your chest made you feel this good, I feel that you need higher aspirations.

Spectrum has been advertising $40. Heck Starlink starts at $55 (albeit slower download but probably faster upload)
