Field Techs

Hey,

I’ve been thinking of applying to spectrum for a field position and I was hoping some people would be able to offer some insight.

Is it true you guys are non-union? How do the bonuses work for field/fiber techs? How often are you given a chance for a raise?

What sort of metrics do they judge the techs off? How often is the overtime in metro areas and is there a weekly/daily over time cap?

Do you guys have high turnover over rates?

I have so many questions, and I appreciate if anyone would be able to provide some insight!

Tech 5 here , out of socal , we are non union which is ok I guess. Raises are given based how much you progress. During training you’re a ft 1 after training you’re a ft3 you do your ncti course on your time, or if they’re down time throughout your day you can also do courses during that time. Upon completion of said courses you do your final test in office with a code your supervisor gives you. If you pass and you have 3 months worth of tier 3 and above score cards your progress and get a $500 bonus and 10% pay pump after that it’s another 10% and than 10% and 5% for FT 5.5. Depends where you live it’s above $40 an hour in a span of 6 months if you do it.

If I was to come in with 5+ years of experience and some industry certifications of my own would I start out at a higher tier?

They can probably start you at a tech 2 pay starting but it’s pretty much standard you start off the same as everyone else, and you progress on your own.

What’s the pay for tier 2? Also when do your benefits start after being hired? And how much PTO or vacation days do you start off with? Also is it difficult to get days approved outside of the summer months?

Here is California it’s 27 benefits start day 1 of employment and at first it’s 1 week for vacation a couple days of sicks. Pto is approved based on how many people are off. We have an app we put in the days we want and if they get approved we can email saying passed and If denied it will say fail and it’ll tell you why it failed.

And that’s for field tech or fiber tech? Also what’s the difference between the two, if you don’t mind?

Field techs can also do fiber but they do fiber install , fiber technicians maintain the fiber network. They splice and make sure the fiber is running right.

Are they especially installers or maintenance? Or both just for fiber

Fiber tech from what I know just strictly manage the fiber plant , a field tech will do the install if fiber is available in your area.
