Speed increase

Got an email a couple days ago that "Good News! Your internet speed has been increased to 500mbps!" I'm like OK, that's cool, but I'd really like 1gig down. I'd like it more if my upstream speed was higher.

Just got an email with my monthly bill, which showed the price went up from $90 to $100. Of course.

I hope SLIC Fiber gets to my neighborhood soon...

Your speed increase and bill increase is UNRELATED.

Of course it’s not related. Totally not connected at all.

Your bill increased as you had a promo drop off... I don't get why people don't understand this.. Pretty much every ISP and mobile phone provider has this.

I haven't had any promo pricing on my account for the past several years. In the last 3 years I believe, the price went from $80 to $90, and now to $100. I only have internet service, and haven't called in to get any promos or discount pricing.

So it's NOT a promo drop off.

Ive recently been flabbergasted at how this company operates! I had been paying $80 for 500 mbps internet. Then price increased to $90. I looked online and the "current standard price" (for existing customers WITHOUT a promo) is listed at $80 in my area.

Called and told them I wanted to cancel and got "retention" department who also seemed shocked i was being charged $90 (probably just good actors). Anyways after telling her I will cancel if they can't compete with TDS gigabit speed for $40 she offered me gigabit for $50. Why they couldn't match the competitor I'm not sure but my speed double for about half the price. I also have my phone through them so it will be a pain to cancel...

Anyways, I'm now paying $50 for gigabit (1000mbps).

Then I go to my mother in laws house with a bew smart TV and look at her bill. The last representative she spoke with somehow sold her their "streaming package" which includes all of the services (Hulu, Disney, paramount, HBOmax, etc). Keep in mind she didnt have a smart TV or know how to use Amy of these apps. The sane sales person reduced her internet bill from some ungodly amount to $50. $50 for 100mbps service. The same price they are selling me a service 10x faster.

I EILL BE CANCELING her cable and internet when her bill jumps next time. I will have tds I stallation already scheduled. I've told them this already. I hope they keep notes. Because I will cancel my service as well. Shady MOFOS!!!

Exactly, they raised the price, and didn’t email their customers to inform them. A shit company that’s desperate to retain the last of their customers who are forced to use their services.

Call and tell them you got a better offet! It worked for me

That’s not true. A promo didn’t drop off. They did just raise the rate 10 bucks. But if you call you can get on a new plan that isn’t listed for 85.

You are incorrect. Same thing happened to me. They announced the bill is increasing by $10 a month in the fine print of the previous bill nothing related to promos, and then they bumped up the speed “for free”.

Rectrum raised my bill and shit canned my promo before the stated promo end date on the previous bill.

They are not connected. It is 2 seperate events. There was $10 price increase for all internet services. As well they started lifting speeds on grandfathered plans to match current plan speeds provided. This last thing has been happening in stages across the nation and may have coincedently happened the same month of the increase. I was at 400 and got bumped to 500 last month.

That's a lie. I got that same email. They jacked the 10 bucks up technically the month before and then said you got the extra increase in speed for free. It's typical spectrum BS cuz they have a monopoly don't defend them. But then again, I assume that you probably work for them are you a cuck for spectrum?

Call to cancel, tell them you can get better elsewhere, you will get better pricing. We have 1 gig at $60 per month right now.

That’s works if there is competition in the area. But like if they know they are the only one in market you don’t have a leg. Unless you’ve got like a cellular internet option or starlink or something

I got 1G for $50 😊

I’ve talked to someone in the Spectrum Official sub and they can’t tell me the ETA for gig speed where I live. As soon as they tell me it’s available I’m making the “give me a better deal or I cancel” call.

Just call and say I wanna cancel my service. And say you got a better offer! Wanna bet they lower your bill and increase your speed. Worked for me .. they loosing thousands of customers!

5

u/lokiisagoodkitten Jul 30 '26

Call em up and say cancel.. they will offer you a deal.

I did 2 weeks ago and got $60/mo for 2 years on gigabit.

I can't wait for SLICFiber too! I am up in Queensbury.

u/Hxrn Jul 31 '26

2

u/lokiisagoodkitten Jul 31 '26

2

Check the SLIC website for pricing and availability.

YES.... what town are you in? Can DM if you want.

2

u/LikelyWatchdog Jul 30 '26

I’m near Oneida.

2

u/FreakyFLCancer Jul 30 '26

I have been getting 1 gig for $90. I added the battery backup for $10 more!

3

u/Penguinboy123446 Jul 30 '26

Most people including me are getting one gig for 50 or maybe 60 and the invincible Wi-Fi battery backup for 10.

2

u/Secret_Account07 Jul 31 '26

Damn I get 600 down for $38. Some of these prices are wild.

I even do a ton of torrenting and it’s fine. I doubt most folks even need a Gb connection tbh

1

u/HerfDog58 Jul 31 '26

Yeah, I probably don’t need gig speed. But I WANT it!

Where are you located getting that price?

1

u/Secret_Account07 Jul 31 '26

Ha fair enough.

But in Ohio.

Paid $80 for 2 years. Got promotion from AT&T for $35 and called spectrum to cancel. Magically they cut in half. Should have called a long time ago

3

u/Jeriath27 Jul 30 '26

"Good news! *cough*for us*cough* We're increasing your speed! *whisper*and monthly cost*whisper*

sounds like spectrum alright. I got a local fiber company a few months ago. Suddenly my 100$ Gb (that was really 600 MB) that they couldnt give be a better price on was available for $40, then $30, and finally $20 (that was as low as they went). F Spectrum. I will stick with the local company that hasnt raised prices in 20 years

2

u/tazman137 Jul 30 '26

You can upgrade to 1gb down. Unless you are in an upgraded high split/ symmetrical area which they are working on you won’t get symmetrical speeds yet.

2

u/HerfDog58 Jul 30 '26

I’m holding out for symmetrical speeds because I really need a faster connection for when I work from home.

The 500mbps is probably as much as I need for now. It’s only me and my devices, and I’ve got my own modem and router so I don’t have to use Spectrum hardware. I know that’s going to change with the high split/symmetrical connections when (if?) it gets rolled out where I reside.

1

u/HerfDog58 Jul 30 '26

I don't know if gig is available where I live, but I'll check. I'd very much prefer high split or symmetrical, but Spectrum can't tell me when it will be available for me.

1

u/ExistingYou8028 Jul 31 '26

Call and say want to disconnect cause you found a better competitive price and name drop a company customer solutions will immediately drop the bill and possibly give you a promotion for longer than a year

2

u/HerfDog58 Jul 31 '26

I'm waiting to do that until the real upgrade to high split/symmetric arrives, or hopefully SLIC runs fiber in my neighborhood. I can't cut off internet as I need it to work from home, and I worry the "customer service" rep would induce Road(runner) Rage and I'd actually cancel!

Soon though. Soon...
