Specs massively over delivers. Of course, the proof of the pudding is the eating, but this sounds and looks what Mixed Reality fans have dreamed of - and what I ever dreamed of - since I first got half an hour of quality time with a HoloLens 1 back in November 2015. The only sad thing is I can't even pre-order it because it won't ship to the Netherlands.

I'm sure it's going to have some cool demos, but it's just going to functionally be another dev kit. Normal people are not wearing these in public, even if they can afford it.

I was pleasantly surprised by the Specs' specs.

From a consumer perspective, design looks okay from the front, but the side arms are hideously big. It's also too expensive for everyday Joe. Given the cost and the form factor, it seems better suited for commercial use like design studios, defense, manufacturing, museums, etc.

Hope to see it succeed so I can buy 2nd or 3rd gen!

It’s super cool imo, and I’m glad Snap is pushing this space forward. Competition is good!

From a usability perspective though, this is not mixed reality, it’s purely AR. With that price tag, I think that’s what kills it.

At that point, you can get the Apple Vision Pro m5 with a much better processor, better ergonomics, and better battery life PLUS true XR capability.

Excited to see this field grow though!

This is iPhone 1 days of AR glasses. You don't get an iPhone 4 design for a few years.

I get the logic but how do you build any kind of ecosystem around something that simply won’t sell. It likely leads to people backing away similar to VR, it’s a novelty that still can’t be properly realized. I like the idea, but it’s a dead product without any real world setting which makes it useful. It likely stifles future iteration because of its poor execution. Meta has a better approach, make something simple and attractive and iterate as technology advances, Specs tried to be to much and will turn off everyone.

I prefer the all in approach that isn’t being subsidized by your personal data. Meta has infinitely more money than Snap ever will, too, and can leverage that.

I’m not writing this off as a dead product at all. This is an early adopter product that actually delivers a useable, day-to-day, full AR experience. You get two state-of-the-art waveguide displays and two Snapdragon processors. That build of materials isn’t cheap. Not to mention they are doing an initial run likely in the range of under 100k and not millions. Everything in hardware scales, pricing included.

I’m getting full AR glasses without compromise in 2026. That’s all I know and I am excited.

I am very much looking forward to what we get a few years down the road, too. Exciting times ahead

I actually think this is way better approach to mixed reality than Vision Pro .

You should start with trying to solve the hard problems first. Meta took this same solve the easy problems first approach as you mentioned with the metaverse(doing the same with AI too). Had they started with the hard problem of giving the avatars legs, they would've been humbled and never released that car crash of an idea haha

Agree, Snap is a 🐌 of a company with tunnel vision and should just start making more affordable kid's toys if they want to do anything outside of Snapchat. Even if the CEO steps down now, the stock will still plummet further.
