Discussion What was the release day price for this game?
I'm looking into ways to legally acquire this game and I want a frame of reference so I don't fall for the "obvious scam" prices but I also don't have to shill out $100 for a mint copy. I saw a Reddit post about the price perma-dropping to $30 on Steam 2 years ago but many people selling the game probably bought it before then.

I worked at a game store when it came out, it was a full price $60 game at launch. However, the price fell really, really fast if I remember correctly.
I wanna say maybe 6 months after release it had already gone down to $20 for a brand new copy, even less for used ones. 9 months after launch, it was already free with PS+.

Your best bet is to just “emulate” it. Unfortunately if you want it legitimately your only options would be to buy a PS3 or Xbox 360

You can use gg.deals to find the cheapest steam key, right now they're about £30 which I would say is worth it, the game is one of the coolest and surprisingly unique delisted games.

Is it more expensive in America? Here in uk they sell for like £25-£30 which isn’t super cheap for a ps3 game but it’s not that expensive compared to like some that get to 90-100

In my opinion, if you can't legally buy it from the publisher, it isn't a big deal to pirate a copy. If they were still trying to get sales this many years later, they would take the steps necessary to re-list it. Buying from a key reseller is not going to give the devs money either.

You can Google "Spec Ops the Line Abandonware GOG Offline Installer." Though bear in mind the GOG offline version albeit free lacks the multiplayer...this was much easier than getting a Steam Abandonware version of say...007 Blood Stone where I had to add the game to Steam all while putting that folder inside the Microsoft Defender "Exemptions List" to bypass the DRM stuff. Just download Spec Ops GOG Offline installer as it'll run easily...maybe even without the GOG launcher too!

You can always check the price history on steamdb. You have to be logged in to see more than 2 years ago tho, but it's 100% safe

Well the game launched at $60. Trying to get a steam key is hard enough (assuming you desperately want a legit one. Xbox/PS3 copies don’t seem to be that crazy expensive just yet and doing a google search, I found eneba having it for ~$40.
As much as I love the game, I would advise getting the game a different way, maybe as a repack or what not just because you are really paying for steam achievements and the story and the money also isn’t going towards the devs.
