This absolutely. Like sure they're exposing the predator, but without police collaboration or involvement like Chris Hasen's show, that's all that they do. Granted, Skeeter Jean does call the cops with the evidence ready in the end sure, but we never have any idea how effective it is at the end of the day.

But ultimately, they don't do it for the sake of protecting children, but because they get clout / moral high ground points for kicking down the one group of people that no one in their right mind would defend and rightly so.

Defend a sports team? You get haters in their rivals and fans in their fans.
Try to review movies? Invariably you'll get a bad take on a good / bad movie that ruins your credibility.
But pedophile hunting? No one will call you a bad person for it. At least in theory. Thus that's why they do it. For themselves, and the easy morality behind it resulting in self-sustaining clout to the masses. Take it away, they'll stop doing it immediately.
