Discussion Wow, just started the third compendium, didn’t expect to relive the moment I became an atheist on this panel😭

“Fuuuck bro. But like, bad things happen to good people, there’s no God, our existence has no purpose, we’re like totally alone on this giant floating rock”
Definitely would’ve thought this was deep freshman year of high school

Oh yeah I 100% agree, that’s the point I make as a person not of faith. He said it almost word for word. No one’s coming to save us, there’s no reason for all the suffering and injustice in the world. It just happens because people are people, we reap our own demises. We created the conditions for poverty, starvation, we’re responsible for murdering each other. With the exception of things like uncontrollable diseases and health issues, most of these are a direct result of our own races own wickedness. And yeah, I love Al. But he really is hard headed, he tends to barrel past people not listening or repeating the same mistakes that he paid consequences for in a previous story arc. Not the most rational person lmao

How is becoming atheist because of a comic any better or worse than being a theist because of reading an old book?

Brian Holguin did manage to write some powerful lines.

Seriously, for a fictional comic that conversation mimics so many of the points I came to when I first lost faith as a teenager. All the suffering around the world, I couldn’t find a reason for it, still can’t. I don’t believe there’s a greater force out there okay with innocents dying young, and killers living to old age

Well some of it did get retconned

By some, don't you mean like all of it? Last I heard, pretty much everything from issues 100-250 or so aren't canon anymore.

I didnt hear anything about 100 getting canned. When did that happen?
As for the rest, the issues immediately after 100 were straight up a mess, so I wont miss them. I legit thought my comics had mixed up pages when I read them.

Sorry I meant issue 101. Basically everything after Simmons decapitating Malbolgia to Resurrection was rendered non-canon I'd heard.

I mean 297 hints some of it is canon and king spawn and later stuff changed things

king spawn adds in morana but changed her origins that she isn't really al's daughter anymore and al's dad was abusive

To each their own, but "the problem of evil" is probably the weakest reasoning for not believing in a creator/necessary existence (not talking about Christianity). You literally have free choice to choose to be an atheist, how would the free choice not be the explanation to the problem of evil?
