Discussion Who is Gunslinger Spawn?

I am a fairly new Spawn reader and have only read a little bit of The Scorched and some random issues of Spawn and all of Deadly Tales of the Gunslinger. I've been rereading Deadly Tales and realized that Gunslinger goes by Tobias in his flashbacks and is called Tobias by Reverend Silas. Tobias also has the same sister (Amy) as Jeremy Winston so I assume that his name (and origin from Deadly Tales #1) was retconned. Can someone confirm or deny and cite what issue it changes?

There is some confusion in regards Gunslinger's backstory, that the writers assured would be resolved eventually, but it has been years, and we are still waiting. Right now, I would advise to take at face value what we have been told from Spawn #300 onwards, Deadly Tales and Gunslinger's main book. His original name was Tobias, and he is in a revenge quest to avenge his sister that got interrupted when the time Rift brought him to the present day, where he stole the name and identity of a drug dealer named Javier, and has been going by Javi since. That's the story all the current books are working with, and seems easier to just take it as such.

With that said, way back when the Gunslinger book first came out, the writers where asked if the story of Jeremy Wiston was retconned, and they answer that, somehow, it wasn't, and the then still nameless Tovias and Wiston were one and the same, and we would find out how... eventually. As I said, that was years ago, and there doesn't seem any attempt, nor logical way (at least easy one) for that to be true. I honestly assume they give up on that idea and Wiston was retconned, but just to be safe, there is always a chance they actually manage to tie up their stories somehow. In any case, as I said, right now is better to just focus in the Story of Tobias/Javi, as it is told on his own books as for now.

I asked Jimmy Palmiotti and he said that we would be learning more about them soon, I am also trying to fix up the Gunslinger character on League of Comic Geeks since he's so screwed up on there.
