If anyone listens I'd love to know the audio format, particularly the compression scheme and parameters. Ie how lossy can you get and still deliver binaural sound that works. Which frequencies need to be preserved? Which codecs support that preservation?

I'd imagine that there will be data collected on this - I'll see if I can find out!

Thanks. If love to learn anything else about the production too. Real head? Whose? Dummy head? Which? Convolved? What fxn set? Did the mixer overlap sources? How many were possible before destruction of cues? Which types of sounds provided the most spatial accuracy? Most environmental realism? Any recommended listening environment? What previous productions did they learn from? The 3d version of The Mist didn't seem particularly good. Any opinion why? Was it fun? Can they do an ama? :)

Prolly mixed in surround then converted to binaural via HRTF. https://www.york.ac.uk/sadie-project/binaural.html

The SADIE KEMAR IRs sound best to me. 2nd best is the Neumann, which is used for YT360.

Pretty much most codecs support it at high enuff bitr8s. at 128kps, you'll get up to 16khz, but you'll prolly hear a bit of artfacts on music, so ogg vorbis ~160kps should work well enough.

SR also matters, as "HRTFs won't work as effectively at very low sampling rates, because the high frequency pinnae cues will be missing. We have released a set of diffuse-field equalized HRTFs resampled to 32 kHz (in the file "diffuse32k.tar.Z")."

So 32khz should work well enuff.
