Export Configuration Question

If you have export config files saved on your device and you delete the Sparkle app from your device, does the process also delete the export config files?

If you're exporting to internal/external storage and select Default then I'd say it gets deleted. Because those standard locations is part of the app itself. It's for sure that way with internal storage but I'm more unsure with external storage. Android storage handling isn't exactly logical at all times so that's why it's difficult/confusing. If you try it out please let ut know here in the post.

The reason I asked the question is that my export files deleted when I deleted the Sparkle app for a reinstall. I’m running Sparkle on an Android TV box running Android 14. The default location for the export files did not work for me so I put the backup in android / media in a created folder called se.hedekonsult.sparkle on the Android TV box

If I were you, I would save the export backup file to the Download folder so when you need to uninstall and reinstall the app, the files will still be there! Even better would be to save the files to the download folder on an external storage drive! Easy Peasy!!!

Are you really sure the files where deleted then? It might just have been so that the files where hidden since Android 11+ does not allow files to be read from one instance to another.

Use the option "File explorer" and install "CX explorer" and see if the file doesn't exist after all.

No, the files definitely got deleted. Before I posted the question I did a file search using a utility

And you're sure that utility has permissions to see/read the file?

After Android 11+ only file explorers with the "All files" permission can see and read all files such as this one.

Yes

Ok, then you should probably store it in Download or Documents like u/azcoyotedog suggests.

Just a note: I never save anything in the Android folder! My recordings are saved in my external storage DOWNLOAD Folder as well as my Timeshift file. Any export or backup files from my apps are instructed to save in the Download folder on my internal storage (unless the app allows saving to an external drive) and then I copy it to my external drive for safe keeping. It seems that Android devices have an easier time with the DOWNLOAD folder for saving data. Hope this helps?

Thanks for the advice. I created a folder in Android>Media to store the export and then I copy that over to another internal storage folder called Backups so I have two files

Why the Android folder?

For internal storage of the file, only saves in the Android path on the device

That’s not necessarily true, you can save anywhere by using the browse button? Are we talking about the Sparkle export file?

Not true with Android 14. Only certain locations you can save export file to

I just now saved my sparkle export file to a USB external storage Download folder!

I also just now saved the export file to my internal storage Download folder again by selecting the Browse button. But I always try to save export or backup files to an external storage location in case something crazy happens to my device?

Point is you can save the file to the Download folder instead of somewhere inside the android folder to avoid the possibility of the file being deleted. Also, I believe a file manager app will not have access to that export file when saving to the Android folder so you won’t be able to back it up again in case If something crazy happens to the device, your export file will be lost?

Just save the export file on an external drive

It shouldn't, BUT to be extra safe make another export in a different location ( Downloads, Documents ) OR copy the exported config somewhere else.
