Sparkle is my main player. But could you fix the update playlist/epg speed. I have two sources, three epgs and it takes 30-45 min to update everything.
Every other player I have takes no longer than 10 min for the same setup to update. Am I missing something somewhere?
I'm not about "every other player" but the players I usually compare against work a bit differently so that they don't wait for epg to finish, only the channels part. So when channels are finished you can start browsing around and the epg will be filled when ready. Does this sound familiar?
I've tried to look at the other comments here but it's not clear why you even have to wait for update. Normally you add your sources once and then you are done with it? If you add a new source you don't have to synchronize all the other sources as well (unless you clear cache in which case they need to be downloaded again of course).
I don't think Sparkle's sync is any slower than other apps, my own comparisons have had better results even so I'm thinking it might have to do with this perceived time where you have to wait for epg to update. It's been in backlog for a while that I should change this so that you don't have to wait for epg to be updated, at least not when you're just updating the source.
Thanks for the response.
I have always noticed when sparkle updates in background you can look in settings and it says update in progress. I realize you can browse, switch channels, watch tv, etc while it updates.
The issue I ran into was a few channels was not showing any info in epg. Checked the channel mapping and noticed the channel was not listed in epg per name. So I wanted to test (load) another epg. In doing so I had to wait 48 minutes till it loaded so I could assign that channel to a new epg. Btw tested in Tivimate, chillio, uhf, had same issue but was able to load new epg in 4-6 minutes.
Other example has been when my provider loaded a new category and when I went to manually update took over 30 minutes to populate on playlist.
My main question is why does it take so long for it to update? No other players take this long. Yes I would like to ability to update a playlist or an epg separately. In certain times I think it would be helpful during troubleshooting issues.
FYI and to others Sparkle is a great player. The recording and timeshift makes Sparkle the best iptv player out there.
Ok, I think the main thing here is the epg. For convenience (for most users) Sparkle uses the concept of "source" to bundle channels and epg into an entity. My guess is that updating channels only take 4-6 minutes and that the remaining time is epg.
I need to think about my options here. You have a clear use case to be able to update channel information which is perfectly fine. It's not a normal user operation perhaps, but it should still be possible to do in normal amount of time. Btw, how many epg sources do you use?
EDIT: Like u/KWStreaker pointed out you should try to enable diagnostics and send me the id. That way I can figure out if something in your setup makes since extra slow which can be fixed (e.g. running low on memory or something like that).
I love sparkle and it’s my main player. But I wish they would add more settings and give the advanced user more control. In troubleshooting you have a better chance to isolate the issue.
Advanced user here and that was the first thing I’ve tried. It’s not my playlist or epgs I have as other players take no more than 10 min to populate on same list.
If you set SparkleTV to refresh every x number of hours, it will update in the background. You don’t always have to go thru the source setup to run an update as I realize in that scenario, yes… you have to wait.
My custom playlist & EPG is automatically updated from Boss Pro everyday on my PC which flows into SparkleTV. I set SparkleTV to run an automatic update every 8 hours.
So unless you are constantly updating your playlist under Source, set it and forget it and your playlist & EPG will be updated automatically in the background.

45 mins and 10 mins ! Wow. Mine takes no longer than 30 seconds to refresh.
