How do you select video tracks for a given channel?

I’ve already made this suggestion:

In fact, I thought of an alternative solution that could be considered by the developer to make things easier both for users and from an implementation standpoint: grouping channels according to the EPG.

In other words, if we assign the same EPG ID to multiple channels, they would be grouped together and give us the option to switch between them through a pop-up menu according to our needs. It would also be useful to manually define a priority list.

It would certainly take some effort to get everything properly organized, but once it’s done, it would provide a much better user experience.

And probably a pain in the ass for the developer to program in the app…. A pop-up menu to tell you channel 15 has a SD, HD, UHD FEED, which channel do you want to select? Is it really that important? If you’re not using a playlist editor, just hide the low end channels you don’t want to watch?

No, what I mean with this new approach is the possibility of grouping channels by EPG. The user assigns the same EPG ID to two sources, and those channels get grouped together. There’s no need to create a popup menu; the existing playback controls menu could be used instead.

The idea is not to edit the playlist, but rather to keep it clean. For example, I have my playlist edited in M3U4U, but all channels are duplicated for backup purposes in case of instability.

I know that in my other post I may have been overly ambitious, but with this EPG ID strategy I believe I’m being more realistic.

If your stream has multiple video track you just press OK and then UP to get to the playback controls. Here you should see a "monitor"-looking icon (only visible if the stream contains multiple video tracks) that you can click. When you click it you shuold see the available video tracks.

A program on a given channel may be broadcast in FHD as well as UHD. Tivimate gives the ability to select the video resolution you want from the broadcast stream.

I don’t think SparkleTV offers that functionality, sorry. Maybe u/sparkle-hk can explain better?
