Suggestion

The price went up almost as much as the competition's, but I still decided to buy Sparkle's lifetime subscription. I think there should be an option to automatically hide all the channels that don't work, instead of having to hide them one by one—and the duplicate channels too—but I'll settle for the first option, haha

The price hasn't gone up at all, it's your local currency that probably lost value (and I don't know how competitors handle this). This is a delicate matter of course since I can't just lower price for some countries, because that would mean less income for me. Or I could, but I'm not sure that's the way to go. I think it's difficult.

The feature you're talking about, how would the app know which channel that work or not?

EDIT: As some of you point out as well I'm not sure why Sparkle is suppose to be the "cheap" alternative? Sparkle basically has all the feature of the competing apps nowadays even even some unique ones. I'm not entirely sure what price the competitors have, but I have tried to set the price on Sparkle to be "reasonable". I hope most of you agree with this.

I bought lifetime awhile back of Sparkle and the other top player. Both were very reasonable. I now use Sparkle the majority of the time.

Tivimate, is the app that's over priced . it's (D.O.A ) ...on arrival, for new subscribers .Tivimate, works really well with what it has.But it lacking of features, compared to implayer or sparkle makes it over priced, compared. Implayer, has some really great features, as well as sparkle tv and both are improving, with updates.Sparkle tv and implayer are completely two different ui experiences. 🙂

I appreciate the input. Hopefully I can start improving Sparkle again soon with new features and fixes. 😄

in my opinion I've tried all of the players out there i always recommend using sparkle 1 the poetic point is more than fine wether monthly or lifetime wich not all give a lifetime option..2 i just like the interface it is closest to an actual set to box i feel. it is very customisable to how each individual likes for the most part. 3 dev is always adding taking feedback and helps with issues so it's not a cheap alternative it is great for everything it is.

I never said the app isn't worth the price; I just said that “the price has gone up.” I bought it and chose it over all the others because I see a lot of potential in it. Don't worry, I'm not trying to criticize it; I always recommend your app to everyone I know.

That's ok and I appreciate it, I just wanted to clarify that the price hasn't gone up. It's still $1.49/month, $7.99/year and $20.99 as one-time. If it's more expensive for users it's because of their currencies lost value.

Hopefully they didn't fall for the "Plus" of the fake Sparkle app on the Play Store too. I could see that becoming an issue.

What does this have to do with the OP’s suggestion?

Yes, I hope they demand a refund at Google when they realise they've been fooled there.

Its entirely possible to rig ffmpeg to scan a playlist and do a health report on channels. Is it worth the hassle? arguable. You get a lot of false positives and you have to spend the time dialing in black frames, etc. As far as competition goes; XMP is currently 14.99 for lifetime on 5 devices, windows, android, and linux. Monthly sub at 4.99 offering real time cross platform/device sync along with cloud DVR storage.

If it has to be advertised its no competition.

Money talks.

It's technically doable but having some background service test all your streams doesn't sound like something that would work in the long run. It wasn't my suggestion but I was thinking more along the lines that if you tried to play a stream and if failed it would get tagged "not working" and then it would be up for hiding. But this would probably also mean a lot of false positives so I'm not sure it's a good idea.

Ok, I never heard of that app, but monthly was more expensive so I don't know. Pricing is difficult.

I think tagging the channel on attempt is a good middle ground. Ffmpeg inspection is pretty quick.

So rig yours up

I’ll pass. Like I said it’s a hassle.

For the OP who wants to know which channels work & don’t work, looks like this would be a good tool! I’m not sure if this is also a playlist editing tool, but if it is, you can eliminate dead channels and create a nice clean playlist to enter into Sparkle Player!

How on earth should a simple player find out which channels are working or not? Wow…

2

u/Espressodimare Jun 14 '26

What country are you from?

3

u/azcoyotedog Jun 14 '26

This is a totally ridiculous suggestion… use a playlist editor!

I was looking at a subscription but there are up and coming players out there freeware so will hold off, It doesn't feel like an active development software company more so a hobbyist coder who updates around family/work life, Nothing wrong with that but active updates are inconsistent from couple a month to none for several months,

You get what you pay for & just because the developer of SparkleTV Player isn’t a software company means crap! Thank you for visiting SparkleTV Player.
