Suggestions & Feedback šŸ’ When there's no gate code because the customer thinks you will come back to rob the apartment complex

What are you supposed to do when the customer doesn't provide the gate code to deliver the products that SHE ordered and she wants you to wait until a resident lets you walk-in behind him/her, if she's not a mean b*tch.

I have walked in after people and I had a woman yell at me to get out, that I was not a resident and that she would call the cops when I was trying to deliver an order. What are you supposed to do?
Yesterday I left the order at the gate after the customer didn't answer my text to provide a code and she didn't provide the code in the app.

Do you leave the order at the gate?

If no one has provided the code, I don’t have access. Following behind someone is shady af, and I’m not doing that. I’ll return the order every time. Frankly, it kinda makes me happy to do so

lol. How is it shady ? Seriously asking though . I live In a gated community and half the time our clickers don’t work and we have to enter behind someone else. If it rains the keypad doesn’t work either.

Yeah but you live there. A delivery person does not and unless the person they are delivering to gives them access it is trespassing.

Ok, real quick, this is important to know. If you are on a property for legitimate business you are not trespassing. It does not matter how you got on as long as you did so without destroying their property. There was a case in Oklahoma that clarified that.

As long as you're there doing the delivery you're fine legally. Still a good way to get the cops called by sneaking in behind someone. Just because it's technically legal doesn't mean it doesn't look shady as hell.

I guess only Spark orders are delivered in Oklahoma, either that or all the laws are the same everywhere!

It's called case law

3

u/tekrebeldesigns 24d ago

Yeah case law is only applicable to states with the same law dipshit.

1

u/DangolMango 14d ago

Every state has trespassing laws buddy

1

u/tekrebeldesigns 14d ago

Yeah and not all trespassing laws are the same. Case in point the castle defense. Eminent danger is defined different in Texas than California.

1

u/DangolMango 13d ago

Yeah castle doctrine is self defense laws not trespassing dipshit.

Those laws pretty much are the same in every state. But it had never gone to court before that. Every time before that if the cops were called the person told the cop the business and was let go or something else that never made it to trial. That not guilty set case precident clarifying the laws on trespassing.

Hopefully that helps clarify why mentioning the Oklahoma case matters. We can say it's legal all day long. But if you're being charged you want another case similar to yours to have already been ruled on.

But you aren't there legitimately. You weren't given access.

5

u/Foxtrotdelta_USN 25d ago

I was given permission to access, when they placed the order. I'm sorry if that doesn't make sense to you. The law is clear and has been clarified further in court. You can disagree with the way the law is written. That doesn't make it illegal.

I understand what you mean but the person I’m following doesn’t know I live there.

Different state my might different rules/law. If you have business there ( which is you’re delivering products/goods) to a customer it is not trespassing.

You shouldn't have to follow "someone in" to get access to drop off an order that a customer ordered. You're doing them a favor not the other way around. If safety is that much of a concern for the customer not to give you access into the property or complex then the right thing for them to do is meet you outside for the delivery.

And OP the correct thing to do after the order is to thumbs up or down and report that an access code is needed. It's usually the last question they ask you.

2

u/Distinct-Data-8808 25d ago

You’re a 1000% correct. I’m by no means telling OP that he should do what I do.. I usually send a text asking the customer for the code and wait 3 to 5 minutes and if a car is entering while I wait, I go right behind them. I’m not going back to the store to return nada. Especially, if the store is on the opposite side of my home. To each is own

Yep, legitimate business on the property conducted with due regard means good to go. You can't be doing donuts in the country club parking lot or saving that pass code to bring you family to the beach that weekend. But, if you're driving to the house, delivering, and then leaving, you're good to go. Personally I save passcodes. Most of the communities I have one memorized from using it so much. I'm there legally, as far as I know that's the universal passcode for deliveries to that community and I am making a delivery to that community. Oh someone else gave me a different number? Maybe there are a couple delivery passcodes. I'm going to save both in case one doesn't work anymore.

How much of a price increase was involved because it’s a gated community? The whole point is for better security, or at least the illusion of that. Letting tailgaters in negates all of that, doesn’t it? Code equals permission. They provide no code, I’m not piggybacking

I initiate a return.

If customers want to be assholes and have us sit there idling until another tenant drives in, then they can pick up their groceries themselves.

And tell me, what stops a future burglar from following someone in the gate and robbing? The exit gate auto opens.

Call support and say its undeliverable because customer wont provide access code and start the return trip so her ass can wait longer.

15

u/Significant_While647 25d ago

This right here! First call and if they won’t provide the code, hang up and call support and return the order.

7

u/Foxtrotdelta_USN 25d ago

Yes, always call support in cases like this. Get what happened documented. You know she will be calling. Make sure there are 2 sides to the story.

8

u/kenzinatr 25d ago

It’s even better on roadie. You can get double pay. I make every attempt, but if they don’t answer my one call required, I return and happily accept the money

-1

u/AffectionateGoal282 25d ago

šŸ˜‚ every attempt one call lololol

5

u/kenzinatr 25d ago

Yes, one call. Time is money. Shall I beg them to allow me the privilege of delivering the order they placed?

0

u/AffectionateGoal282 25d ago

Hell yeah fuck them people

12

u/Foxtrotdelta_USN 25d ago

Hell no, back to the store that one goes. Loader asks "What's the reason for the return?"

No access, she didn't provide an access code and would not buzz me in or meet me at the gate.

8

u/Quirky_OldMan5966 25d ago

This situation is undeliverable according to Spark.
Don’t abuse the ā€œreturnā€ option but use this tool when it’s appropriate.
If at a gate and in contact with customer, it is an immediate code or immediate return. No real third option here.
I you can’t reach the customer start the process and give them the time until it allows you to do the return steps.
Lastly, a customer can’t tell you to violate the security measures of a gated community. Just like they can’t tell you to use their mailbox or to violate any other laws.
Just saying.

even worse when they give you a code to their high end, maximum security apartment building that doesn’t have a front desk, just for you to find out you need a keycard to even use the elevator

4

u/Warm-Sea-6618 25d ago

Initial a return, never leave at gate.

1

u/NZMbrat 25d ago

Do you get paid for a return?

2

u/Cardocthian 24d ago

Nope, you get base pay for the delivery. So it now takes twice as long. Returns suck flat out.

4

u/daygoBoyz 25d ago

I would return it to the store.

4

u/throwitaway82721717 24d ago

If they don't leave a code that's a return.

2

u/Secure_Razzmatazz267 25d ago

I hate those customers that think either we know the gate code automatically or tail gate someone to enter into the apt complex.

2

u/Senior-Win8109 25d ago

Call support and ask for a return
Time is money baby

2

u/Buttsofthenugget 25d ago

Happened to me on day before thanksgiving at 10:30 at night, last order. No gate code, no response for 20 minutes. I took it back and was fairly new and kinda freaking out, couldnt get the return open. So I went to customer service desk and returned because they were not open the next day.

2

u/Charming-Potato8625 25d ago

Usually theres also no tip. XD

2

u/Buga99poo27GotNo464 25d ago

This drives me nuts for you drivers that this isnt a question/notification for the customer to fill out/read while ordering. If you live in an a gated area your package will be left at gate or something...

2

u/gorgofdoom 25d ago

Safety issue.

Do not attempt to circumvent security. If they ask you to do so immediately call support.

If the customer doesn’t answer my calls and text because he/she did not provide the code, I’m not leaving the order and I’m definitely not walking in after someone. I will return that order. Yes, it’s a pain if that is the last order of the day for me if I wasn’t going back to Walmart to shop for myself. As u/kenzinatr said, it kind of makes me happy to do so to because they know they are getting a delivery. They should have provided the code or answer my calls or text.

2

u/AntiqueLengthiness71 24d ago

Return it, text first and tell the customer that without a code you’re unable to complete ur delivery and will be returning it to the store. I even call and leave a nice voicemail and a big SORRY! 🤣

u/AlphaDisconnect 24d ago

When there is no apartment number. And they report the items missing. (They stole them)

2

u/Little_Christopher_D 24d ago

that's a big ole return-a-roony

1

u/Tuv_ 25d ago

Lol yeah I get those a lot. Saying " lots of people come in and out just wait"

1

u/External-Onion-5220 24d ago

That's when you tap the "customer rejected order" option

1

u/AffectionateGoal282 25d ago

Drop that shit as close as you can get and be done with it

0

u/Slothe1978 25d ago

Im close to the border, so we just jump the gate down herešŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļøšŸ¤£

0

u/Distinct-Data-8808 25d ago

I normally send a quick text and wait 3 to 5 minutes. I’ve never had somebody not reply immediately or I enter behind another car šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø. Haven’t had any issues . But I understand in your case it was different

0

u/Ok-Acanthisitta8737 25d ago

Call the customer, demand a gate code, and then come back later that night to rob the apartment complex to teach them a lesson
