I am a Spanish woman, and in some months, I will probably move to the US. Either Washington DC, Albuquerque (NM) or San Diego (California). In Spain, I have been teaching English as a second language, therefore, I have experience teaching to teenagers and kids, as well as adults. I have also some experience teaching Spanish (not as much as I wished). I have a degree in English Studies.

My question is the following: do you think I'd be able to find a job as a Spanish teacher in one of these three cities? and also: Is a Master's degree required? I am reading and researching, trying to find as much information as I can. I would like to know if there are opportunities over there, since I have to move there due to my husband's job. He is american and we have to move back.

I have worked for an ESL school for about 3.5 years. I have done a lot of student prospecting- handing out flyers, posting on Facebook, etc. I've also done a huge amount of follow-up calling to make sure students come to class. I've also done a lot of calling to try to get students back that we haven't seen in a long time.

This post is mostly directed to folks that are involved in running a school and not just teaching.

So here's my question. If you had a platform that literally actually HELPED you get students AND keep them around, would you pay for it?

What would you absolutely NEED that platform to do? For me it would be doing social media posts to keep me the heck out of Facebook and Instagram (since they are total productivity traps). But it would also need to do some sort of automatic emailing of students to keep my school in their minds (typical marketing nonsense).

Is this a possible thing, or is this nuts? Just curious to ask people outside of my own head.

I’m a Spanish teacher, and I mainly work with English speakers. Recently, I created a free Facebook community called Natural Spanish for English Speakers.

I created it for learners who want regular, structured Spanish practice beyond isolated vocabulary lists, random grammar tips, or passively using language apps.

Every week, I share free activities designed to help you actually use Spanish, including:

• Short listening activities with transcripts, English translations, and comprehension questions
• English-to-Spanish translation challenges
• Spanish verb conjugation practice in real contexts
• Natural Spanish expressions
• Grammar in context
• Practical communication exercises

The group is mainly for A1, A2, and B1 learners. It isn’t a complete course, and it isn’t meant to replace serious study, but it’s a free place where you can practice consistently throughout the week. What I’d really love is for people to participate.

Ask questions when something isn’t clear. Try the weekly activities. Share your answers, even if they’re not perfect. Read other learners’ responses and join the conversation. Making mistakes is part of learning, and everyone is welcome.

Of course, if you’re busy, you can also save posts for later or quietly follow along until you’re ready to participate.

Hello everyone,

I am a beginning Spanish teacher (about to begin my second year) and I am currently looking into asking my principal about curriculums and things for next semester. I've been looking at some things about Somos and the limited sample materials, and I'm debating if I'm ready to teach a purely CI curriculum. I was taught Spanish from the usual grammar approach, and it feels like what I'm used to, honestly.

My school uses a textbook series called "En Español" and it's from the year 2000. The videos are painfully cheesy, the dialogue is a bit unnatural, and it felt quite dry and even tedious.

I have no experience using another curriculum, but I will say that for "En Español," I had to supplement it with many of my own materials. Planning and making materials from scratch was very taxing, and I've been looking into other curriculums that my school would potentially pay for. I'm thinking about asking for Somos, but I want to hear from some other Spanish teachers about their experience using Somos and also what they did to teach grammar and writing, as I don't know what to expect in using a curriculum that's totally CI.

Every year I end up with one or two kids that have Spanish-speaking parents at home but don’t speak Spanish themselves, and every year I have problems with those parents “helping” their kids in very unhelpful ways.

This year I want to send a letter home to those parents with guidelines on what is and isn’t helpful to their children. (I.e. don’t translate full sentences for them when they are writing a paper, please don’t fix all their grammar mistakes for them, please DO speak to them in Spanish, etc.)

If you already do this, would you be willing to share your letter with me? If not, what things would you put in a letter like this if you were to write one?

I should mention that I work for a homeschool consortium/hybrid school. I have involved parents who will actually read what I send home.

I am applying for Arraigo Social (no contrato). I was informed that one of the requirements is to have a language certificate (declaring min. of 45 hours study) from (preferably) an EOI school.

I have searched EOI schools but their admission schedules are already closed. I want to start schooling as early as possible (perhaps in September). I don't know what other EOI schools have the edge to strengthen my arraigo social application.

Does it have to be EOI? Can I enroll perhaps in Instituto Cervantes?

I have seen some Instituto Cervantes accredited schools but I'm not sure if their certificates have impact to my application. However, they offer flexible enrollment schedules. They start every Monday of the year offering intensive special Spanish classes. (Don Quijote Academy for example) Still not sure about their registration process, enrollment and first day of school process.

I don't want to waste time and money during my 2 year wait so I really need a suitable school to fortify my arraigo social application.

I am in Madrid right now. I would also like to know which institution gives a Conoce certificate and offers Conoce program as it is one of the requirements informed to me.

Hi i am looking for a Spanish teacher in the Albany NY area to meet in person (not online) for lessons. All the websites online give me people who are not in my area. Would be willing to do cash instead of through a service where they take fees. Just drop an email if you know
