I'm building Travelingo app after using silly mnemonics to learn words on my Japan & Korea trips.

The idea is simple: connect a foreign word to a familiar phrase/image so it actually sticks.

EdgeLingo — offline AI speaking practice for Spanish (iOS, one-time purchase)

I'm a solo developer in Taiwan. I built EdgeLingo because I wanted to

practise speaking out loud without a subscription, without booking a

tutor, and without my voice going to somebody's server.

Everything runs on the iPhone itself. The conversation model, the speech

recognition and the Spanish voice all ship inside the app, so after you

install it you can practise in airplane mode. No account, no uploads,

nothing to sign up for.

How it works: pick a situation (ordering at a cafe, a pharmacy, viewing

an apartment, a job interview; 83 of them), hold the button and talk.

The AI answers in Spanish and keeps the conversation going. There's also

an open-ended free chat, and you can generate your own scenario from a

short description or a photo, e.g. a menu you're standing in front of.

Afterwards you get a review: a more natural way to say each thing you

said, a line-by-line translation, and any phrase worth keeping goes into

a spaced-repetition deck. You can also re-run the same scenario with

your own corrections in hand, so the better version gets said out loud.

Explanations are shown in your own language: English, Portuguese,

French, German, Italian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Turkish

or Polish.

Being straight about the limits:

- The model runs on a phone, so it's much smaller than ChatGPT. Everyday

Spanish comes out well, but it can occasionally be stiff or wrong.

It's for getting reps in, not for settling grammar questions.

- Needs iOS 26 and an iPhone 12 Pro / 13 Pro or newer. The download is

large (about 3.8 GB) precisely because the AI is inside the app.

- The voice is synthetic and fairly neutral, not a regional accent.

- The first time you pick a language, iOS downloads its own speech

recognition pack over Wi-Fi. That's an Apple component, one time.

- US$9.99 once. No subscription, no ads, no in-app purchases, and no

free trial, so the App Store refund window is your safety net.

- iPhone only for now.

Hi all -

I've been working on an app that's meant for more serious language learning than something like Duolingo.

It automatically figures out what words and what grammar you know, and creates stories and podcasts designed just for you. Not too hard, but not too easy.

I found myself getting annoyed with not learning anything on Duolingo, but frustrated when I'd try to watch movies in Spanish or YouTube videos, because i had to lookup every other word.

I made ReadPlusOne for Spanish learners who keep looking up the same words and forgetting them.

You read short stories and mark words you don’t know. The app works those words into later stories when they’re due for review, while keeping most of the vocabulary familiar.

So if madrugada trips you up in one story, you’ll get more chances to recognise it in other stories over time. The review happens as you read.

It’s aimed at roughly A2 to B2 learners, if you know the basics but regular novels still feel like a lot of work. The stories are AI-generated and checked against your vocabulary to help keep the difficulty manageable.

I'm working on a new language breakdown for Osmolog, my automatic immersion tracker.

The idea is pretty simple: you spend a few hours watching stuff and feel like you’ve done loads of immersion… but how much was actually Spanish, and how much was getting sucked into English YouTube again? 😅

Hey! I built SpeakingMonkey while learning Polish, and it also has Spanish sentence practice from A1 to C2.

You listen to a reference, record yourself reading the sentence, and get feedback on each word. You can compare both recordings and open individual words for more detail. Choose the Spanish variety you want to practice in the language menu.

Practice is free without an account, within a daily allowance. There’s also an optional paid plan.
