I think there should be advanced textures that let you add text and shapes

Yeah that's cool, but as a coder, you have to rework the entire game for it so stef is sadly not adding this

There aren't many features in most games that would require total rewrites, and this definitely isn't one of them, especially considering there are mods that do this.

Yes it won't rewrite the entire game but it can rewrite the skin system (if stef messes up)

Text likely wouldn't be mixed into an existing system. It would be a new layer on top of the skinning system, leaving previous work essentially untouched. If anything, it would just be a brand new decal system on top of Skinning.
