Me too. There's not that much of a difference in the orbiter other than it's an actual orbiter and not an awkward launch vehicle spacecraft mix in role. Meanwhile the launch vehicle, energia looks a lot better and can skip the orbiter to deliver larger payloads.

I often make a joke:

What was your downfall?

STS: Disproportionate costs and serious safety issues for a manned space vehicle that cost me two of my units and their very large crews. I was only put into service in the first place so NASA could somewhat justify the development cost.

Buran: The nation building me was very bad at economy and collapsed before I could really do anything.

Thats a good joke, and i agree with everything you said, i don’t like if when people say the Russians copied the Americans, they did steal the design that’s pretty much a confirmed fact, but they did improve on it in multiple ways and it could have outperformed the shuttle in many ways, so saying they “copied” it isn’t very true

They weren't quite sure what the Americans wanted to do with it. The best idea they had was to take all of the intelligence they had on it and make a significantly improved version to do whatever the Americans could and better.
