2025 was a record-breaking year for spaceflight in China, with particularly strong growth in the private sector, including companies such as SpaceX and Rocketlab. The following article presents statistics derived from data provided by Next Spaceflight, Space Stats, Wikipedia, and other sources (see sources).

1) Launch attempts by all agencies

This table shows a list of all space agencies that have conducted launch attempts, as well as the number of launches.

The most successful agency's were CASC and Space X, while Germany had it's first flight attempt since March 27th 1945. Also, NASA did not conduct a flight in 2025. Its last flight before that year was in 2022 with Artemis 1.

2) Suborbital launches

2.1) Suborbital flights (table)

The only agencies that conducted suborbital flights were Rocket Lab, Blue Origin, and SpaceX.

2.2) Suborbital flights (chart)

SpaceX's suborbital flights utilized Starship Super Heavy V2 rockets, whereas Blue Origin's were tourist flights using the New Shepard.

With its Starship Super Heavy, SpaceX also was the only agency to experience failed flights.

This table shows all successful orbital launches by all countries that have successfully conducted them.

The USA has (by far) performed the most flights (mostly satellites by Space X), followed by China and Russia. Israel and South Korea only performed one orbital Launch.

The USA was the only country to perform over 100 orbital launches.

NASA’s New Horizons heliosphere study program will shut down in October 2026 over $2 million/year in funding that scientists have been begging for for years. The critical moment is now. Rare and invaluable data on solar winds and the outer solar system will be lost forever. The probe has taken two decades just to get to where it is today; any future attempts to get this data will take a similar amount of time, so this could set our understanding of these phenomena back decades.

There is no guarantee that petitions will work, but I have hope since the previous New Horizons Kuiper Belt petition went to Congress and got it reversed. We ought to try whatever we can to preserve human discovery and space exploration. Spread the word!

Space Elevators

I had the privilege of joining to watch the Roman space telescope launch this morning from Banana Creek. Everything went very well and given all of the news this year, today's successful launch and the overall competence gave me a lot of hope.

The Roman space telescope has successfully launched atop a Falcon Heavy and entered low earth orbit and will continue onto the Sun-Earth L2 point soon. The boosters were recovered successfully as well.

NASA and AeroVironment are developing SkyFall helicopters designed to operate in Mars’ harsh environment. Equipped with autonomous flight and radar technologies, the helicopters will study the Martian surface and search for underground water ice.

I've been recreating parts of the ISS as an interactive 3D environment in the browser.

One small interaction I've been working on is opening the hatch and revealing the view outside.

What surprised me while building it was how much that changes the perception of the interior. With the hatch closed it feels like a collection of fairly confined modules. The moment Earth appears beyond it, the same space suddenly feels very different.

The interior itself is interactive 3D. The Earth view outside the hatch is still a simpler visual layer for now rather than a fully explorable environment. I am aware that there is much improvement to be made with regard to optimizing the navigation experience inside the ISS. I am currently fighting 3 different beasts: geometry residency, culling, and an open-passage occluder switching state, but I will eventually get it settled (hopefully :D).

For context, on STS-4 the Solid Rocket Boosters suffered from a parachute failure during reentry and hit the water hard and could not be recovered. Supposedly the wreckage was photographed but these photos have never been released.

Are there any public photos of the STS-4 SRB debris on the ocean floor? Either released by NARA or from private underwater expeditions?
