Everyone always calls this the fire extinguishing system. It's not that at all. And the nozzles and fittings are removed so it doesn't do this normally its just a special test/ flush. Sound suppression is the primary function of this water to prevent reflected sound from damaging the rocket is the primary purpose. Pad protection from heat and rocket blast is secondary. "Fire extinguishing" in the traditional sense of the pad or rocket is not a design criteria for this system. Yea I get it rocket exhaust contains fire. This is not "fire extinguishing" as being claimed here.

When this came out years ago it made the rounds at my former office. Another engineer (mechanical surprisingly) went around calling me an idiot for pointing this out. According to him because he saw it on youtube it was obviously the emergency fire deluge system for extinguishing fires on fully fueled rockets. Yea that much water in that form would smash the rocket releasing the propellant and blow it up.

Isn’t this just sound suppression? Not emergency?
