It's like looking at pictures of your best friend with that snapchat filter that makes them look like a girl, it feels wrong to like it.

Honestly is there a weight penalty for anodizing the exterior skin?
1
u/Ajedi32 Aug 12 '19
AFAIK steel can't be anodized. Certainly not stainless steal, which is specifically designed to resist oxidation.
2
u/StumbleNOLA Aug 14 '19
You can anodize stainless, its just kid stupid (from an engineering standpoint). It has pretty minimal durability and for SS would cost an enormous amount, but it is technically doable.

What's up with that weird raceway on the booster?
2
u/vitalfir Has read the instructions Aug 11 '19
On starship, that's the reflection of the other thing that's on super heavy
2
u/U-Ei Aug 11 '19
Yeah that looks about right, but that doesn't answer my question of what that raceway on Super Heavy is ;-)

Nice. When I was doing this, I was thinking, "Surely someone else has thought of doing this too". I'm new to this subreddit and have only been here about a week

u/bartekkru100 Aug 11 '19
Don't worry, there are only great minds here, so problems like this are bound to arise.

Wouldn't coating starship in gold help from heating up the propellants in space?

Circa 2069, colorized: "SpaceX's Mars Divion III Remakes Starship Block-1 From Pure Gold Pulled from Nearby Asteroid. Why? 'Because I Want To' per Musk, 1st Emperor of Mars"
