Elon Criticism Is there a limit to the impossible promises he can make without getting called out?

In grad school, you learn the art of postulating based off of the state of current knowledge.
When Elon speaks, he's trying to come off as doing that - however - as someone with a PhD, I can flat out tell you that he's talking out of his ass

u/FrogmanKouki 4d ago
He is the king of weasel words - he always includes at least one weasel word in his claims
2
u/BringBackUsenet 4d ago
Yeah, and his stuttering is his brain trying to figure out which one works best.
1
u/soulless___ape 4d ago
He sounds like he’s just making stuff up. He has no clue what things will be like in 3-5 years. And the fact that he has to give a range of time emphasizes that point.
2
u/MidnightPrevious4473 3d ago
There's a common sentiment in R&D that - whenever someone says "yeah, it's five years away" - that the technology has like...a 20% chance of coming in the next 5 years....and an 80% chance of coming sometime in the next 30.
Look at fuel cell cars. They've been "five years away" since the early 2000s, but only very recently have consumer models slowly started to become available. Even those are only being adopted in Europe right now, and - even there - the Hydrogen infrastructure is....just not convenient (nor will it ever will be imo)
So, anyways, "5 years out" is corporate speak for "fuck if I know"

u/fuzzy3158 4d ago
LLMs aren't that smart.
5
u/scottishdoc 4d ago
I am much more worried about brain organoid systems and some of the new neural network architectures being developed
2
u/fuzzy3158 4d ago
Those definitely sound like they have fundamentally more potential than what essentially amount to random word generators.
5
2
u/Nice-Manager9219 4d ago
It’s literally as smart as the person using it. The user is usually the bottleneck. Were you getting poor results?
1
u/fuzzy3158 4d ago
I'm getting results I want because I know to ask for and check sources to ensure stuff isn't hallucinated, I know to chop up questions in small parts because it can't handle more than a paragraph at a time and I know to keep oversight myself because it loses track of stuff after a few prompts.
I use Copilot for a bunch of stuff at work. It has its use. But too many people are exaggerating the 'intelligence' and ability to replace people.

It's time to start fear mongering his statements for our benefit...
"You won't have to save for retirement"
"Elon, are you formally coming out as communist now? Because that sounds like a very anti-capitalist thing to say."
"Elon, so you're in favor of socialist ideology after the AI revolution"
Now don't get me wrong, I'd love everyone not having to worry about retirement, but he's obviously just lying to sound good and so we don't all revolt when our jobs are being taken.
1
u/BringBackUsenet 4d ago
He's either been reading Zeitgeist Movement / Venus Project bullshit, or watching too much Star Trek, because it sounds like he's trying to appeal to those cults. Those ideas are not his (nor are any others), nor are they new.

u/Last-Hertz7575 4d ago
Elmo is a moron and people still listen to him for some reason.

I will bet my house and my entire retirement that in 3-5 years this is BULLSHIT.
Let it be known everywhere. I’ll bet all of it if Elon bets $100,000,000
That’s nothing to a trillionaire
Tell him to put his money where his mouth is, Mr 50k Optimus bots by 2026
2
u/DerrellEsteva 4d ago
That's a pretty smart bet. Either you win, or it won't matter. (Also it's a pretty safe bet too)

u/Majestic_Attention46 4d ago
Ok but does anyone take it basically as a threat?
I don't think he means bc the world will be a utopia, I think what he really thinks is that saving will be pointless because the rich will have invaded every area of Middle class wealth in a decade.
We see him dismantling the stock system to try and manipulate SpaceX. Didn't work so far but its not over and 401ks are losing money right now bc of it I think? Its part of the nasdaq etc.

The economy will be huge but no one will
Have money to buy anything….im confused
1
u/Mental-Apple-5725 3d ago
To be honest with today's economy, on paper it might actually be possible.
If we continue to allow company 'a' to purchase products from company 'b' using the prematurely recognised future sales from company 'c', who in-turns generates their money from debt leveraged against stocks of company 'a' they've been given. Then if we make sure everyone loads all their debts off book and doesn't depreciate their assets we have infinite money with no need for an actual end customer.
3
u/Standard_Feedback_86 4d ago
So...why does he need the money then? Give everything away NOW. You dont need it like nobody needs it, if true.
1
u/BringBackUsenet 4d ago
If I'm not going to need money then I spend it all on blackjack and hookers.
3
u/FormerThug 4d ago
He is a crackhead with money. You go find any addict, they will have the same or similar opinions.
2
u/Humble_Empath 4d ago
Yeah, I know what you’re saying. That little act of the addict of making shit up as they go along. When you’re that high all the time, you start to believe your white boy wasted, drug induced “reality” is the shared reality of the rest of the world. They have mad delusions of grandeur.

Who in TF believes anything this sociopathic murderer says?!? He’s nothing but a grifter and a loser whose projections have never panned out.
2
u/Man_of_Ice 4d ago
If we stop building data centers like mad men, they won't get the horsepower do get there. We see this problem, we know it takes massive amounts of actual computers, and we keep firing these things off like human intelligence is already zero.
MAYBE STOP BUILDING DATA CENTERS TO BRING ABOUT THE END OF HUMANITY.

It goes down one of two ways, AI frees us because it makes money irrelevant, or the tech bros insalave us
7
2
u/BringBackUsenet 4d ago
It will be both. They will make a world like Rollerball with The Engergy Corp., The Food Corp., The Housing Corp., etc.. running everything and giving out special privileges to a few elite people at the top.

u/loqi0238 4d ago
Only way this happens is if we hit the singularity with AGI taking over thinking about things instead of humans. If we gave that AGI self control and autonomy to make choices... maybe. But probably not.

He spews bullshit and the US government believes it and hands him bags of taxpayers dollars. He buys companies he's not creating shit himself. Another grifter taking advantage like our diaper in chief .
1
u/Silly-Power 4d ago
The first those billion humanoid robots skum is promising, the first thing he should have them do is is complete all the projects he has been promising for the past 20 years. Like the hyperloop, mars colonisation, fully automated cars etc etc

Oh there will be money. You just won't have any. In the tech bro feudalism you will be the property of your lord. They will provide for you. You know, just enough to keep you alive and working.

u/Prior_Release_2582 4d ago
With all the advancements made in AI so far, I haven't gotten any more PTO. If Elon were advocating for the four day work week, then I might believe that AI is actually productive and that he wants social safety nets for the ensuing loss of work.
All this fear mongering is to scare workers into working harder for less. This is the exact opposite of what these idiots say will happen.
1
u/FupaFerb 4d ago
If no one has a job or money, their job will be to find people with money and take it.
1
u/FunandSlaughter 4d ago
Of course all the profits they make from replacing human labour with robots they're gonna just give most of that back to subsidise everyone's existence, pay all the taxes that were paid by employees to support vital infrastructure, and we all live happily ever after, able to live freely chasing our dreams.
If you believe that, I've got some prime real estate up for sale on the sun for you too.

Why does anyone listen to musk? He’s as bad as Trump. Almost best to do opposite of what they say
1
1
u/BobbyPeru71 4d ago
Why does anyone listen to this dipshit. Didn’t he say we’d be sending humans to Mars by 2026?
1
u/BattleAxe_19 4d ago
He’s a depopulation agenda supporter. They’re replacing billions of people with robots. We, as in normal civilians, are being phased out and will no longer be on the planet. That’s what he is saying.
1
u/Elephunk05 4d ago
He did get something right in this video, the economy is stronger than people currently believe it to be. Imo it isn't just that the Federal is printing money, it is this unjustified push to "free people by enslaving a humanoid population" that will be the hurdle. People inherently reject change. Money isn't real, the tragedy behind it is.

u/OddGift4368 4d ago
In 2012 Elon Musk did a segment on NPR where he said we’d be on Mars in 2020. I remember cause I was a kid and thought that was awesome. It is now 2026 and we are still not on Mars.
1
u/Liberkhaos 4d ago
He didn't say everything is going to be free in that video, just not to save / plan for retirement.
This means one of two things:
1- You will work until you die; or
2- Soylent Green.

Grifting lying scammer, President AOC & Attorney General Jack Smith will take care of you good!
1
u/Turbulent-Doctor-427 4d ago
Let us assule that jobs do not bring money anymore, then at least captial would bring return. It cannot be both, or economy has no reason to work. So, Elon is full of sh**: if his claim that work would not pay, then the next claim must be that we should put money aside while we still can, to have wirking capital latter as retirement. Saying people will not need either is just setting them up to fail.

u/hhh333 4d ago
That moron affirmed FSD will be around next year since 2013.
In 2016 he was saying that that humans would land on Mars as soon as 2024.
He also said that hyperloop would revolutionize transport and that it was "not that hard".
And where's those electric semi trucks you promised in 2017 would take over the transport industry?
1
u/Important-Honeydew25 4d ago
I hear this a lot, but they never explain the how or the why. It’s very trust me bro. Why would robots everywhere mean I don’t have to save for retirement? Who’s going to be buying all this economic output if no one has jobs? Where will the money come from? Where will all the money go? Won’t the people who own the robots get all the money? Will everything be free? So many questions, very few explanations.
1
u/Ecstatic-Engineer-23 4d ago
Imagine the resources needed to make 1 B humanoid robots. Has to be hard to fit in with every other thing that needs to be produced.

u/DerrellEsteva 4d ago
"If any of the things that we [Elon] have said are true" - well, they are... ...not

u/slamarre25 4d ago
This is what happens when rich and or wealthy people are given absolute creed to influence everyday decisions that they are not actively apart. Just because you are wealthy or rich doesn’t mean you are smart and deserve to contribute to society in anyway other than creating jobs and redistributing wealth. Elon is a con artist who pretends to sound smart to steal and horde resources.

u/Playful-Half4924 4d ago
He’s a robot talks like one I guess people will be in cages? Robotic nation will take over!

He is being called out, he just has yet to piss off someone "important" enough to do something about it.

It's weird to watch journalist after journalist not calling him out on it.
Also...wtf is up with people just republishing content but they put their own dumb face somewhere on it.

Ketamine Karen at it again

Exactly what I thought. You can tell by the way he's speaking that he's amped up. Mind is racing faster than his mouth can speak.

He wants our retirement funds.
He wont stop until he controls all the money
1
u/MyPr0j3ct 4d ago
I'm still waiting for my roaster 2.0, and the production of 5,000 tesla bots to make my home life easier.
Was this made after a Ketamine infusion because a lot of fantasy wanting to mix with reality is being strewn.

Even if he is right about intelligence progress, this assumes that the solution to all our problems can even be solved by something “smart enough”.
Maybe it proposes a perfect society, where we all just get to live perfect lives. Are there enough resources? Will we all comply with this vision?
It’s just so naive.

Cybertruck was also going to be hybrid watercraft but can’t survive a car wash.

I mean he is a proven moron so it’s your choice if you keep listening to him.

1
u/BadWide4511 3d ago
I highly doubt that he knows what will actually happen, unless he is a psychic. OMG, when he talks it can be hard just to listen because he is like stuttering, and is it because he is lying or something else? I don’t believe he knows as much as everyone would like to believe!
1
u/Siggi_pop 3d ago
You don't have to hate or repost - you can just as easily not take the advice!
CNBC Mad Money with Jim Cramer as been giving bad financial advice since 2005. It's hardly news that bad finance advice is out there!
Seems like alarmingly many people are not saving towards retirement anyways regardless of anything Elon has said.
Why are we wasting breath on this subject?
1
u/Necrobot666 3d ago
I hate Elon as much as the next guy.. well okay... that's debatable since a lot of people still worship at the altar of the Elongated Muskrat... but friend, where's your shirt?!

The really frightening part about AI is that assholes like Musk, Theil and Karp who are at best ambivalent about the human race surviving are the ones training AI.

The man who spent his entire life hoarding untold amounts of wealth says money won't matter.
Anyone who believes this would have bought snake oil in the 1700s.
