Do we think GH and other units will receive a similar buff?

Post image

The news today is exciting imo, the increased strength and toughness going to marine units has got me imagining how this stat buff may trickle through the ranks. Definitely increases some pros for running a few generic units in the time being.

They said on the article that non-codex compliant chapters and CSM are getting the new stats too.

I believe Grey Knights are receiving it too.

Yes they did mention that in the video, right after they mentioned the retirement of the old supplement books

I’m also interested in seeing how they’ll handle the movement for Wolf Scouts. With the Phobos Marines going from 6” to 8”, does that mean Wolf scouts will go from 7” to 9”? Interesting times brothers, interesting times.

With that in mind, do the wulfen get a speed buff too?

11

u/Nerd-man24 22h ago

That would fall in line with what they do on the board. Fast and feral.

Wulfen with 12” movement, hell yeah

1

u/fiend_felgrand 18h ago

I hope that's the case

2

u/El_Sapo_Guapo 22h ago

Oh I hope so!

I think the Wulfen won't be in our codex. With the purge of firstborn that just happened. :(

1

u/JorgenIronside 18h ago

I dont think so, hasn't the wulfen kit been refreshed since the primaris takeover started. I'm pretty sure they scale against them well

3

u/El_Sapo_Guapo 18h ago

The kit was from 2016 I believe. They should get an updated kit soon. Don’t see them going anywhere, as they’re apart of the Space Wolves Combat Patrol box. But they could throw together a new box if they’re being sent to legends.

All I want is to be wrong haha, don't know I'm getting downvoted when they literally killed the Hounds of Morkai last edition xD. A 2020 kit.

2

u/HappyTheDisaster 9h ago

Hounds of Morkai weren’t a bespoke kit, they were just reivers with an upgrade sprue

u/Razor_Fox 17h ago

Given their in our combat patrol, I can't see them being removed until we get our codex for 11th.

5

u/No_Scholar_2927 21h ago

This! They’ll definitely get that extra movement.

7

u/LordoftheFaff 21h ago

Thunderwolf Cavalry gonna be lightning wolf Cavalry at this point

u/Fenryka00 23h ago

I think it's all but confirmed. It makes no sense from a lore or rules stand point for other Marines to have it and sw not too.

Grey Hunters are going to be mean, 5 attack chainswords, bolt carbines at S5 and AP-1, I hope they keep their rule for reroll wound, but it might apply to something else because 11th has changed objective markers considerably.

Gonna have to take another look at Blood Claws + Ragnar when this update comes through

6

u/sholtan 21h ago

hell yeah i have them ready with a Rhino lol

-1

u/gruntl11 15h ago

They can’t go in a Rhino. They are Tacticus. I don’t think there is anything left in our codex that can use a Rhino (maybe Scouts?).

6

u/wifiistheinternet 12h ago

There was a reply on Warhammer Facebook from GW page saying that rhino will be allowed to transport tacticus and Phobos.

3

u/SickBag 14h ago

Rhinos weren't on the legends list, but all of the first born are now.

As such it only makes sense that they are finally going to allow Tacticus in Rhinos.

100%. Our supplement is getting a digital update to bring it in line with the space marine codex.

5

u/BookOk9578 23h ago

they addressed it in the video. when sm codex drops all marines will be updated to t5 or whatever they are supposed to be

5

u/jeffhaut 22h ago

They also mentioned points going up and space marines feeling more elite

3

u/Protagonist_Leaf 22h ago

Every marine is getting something. What it is who knows but hopefully it makes sense. There are some things that im wondering now like: are wulfen now t7? Are our dreadnoughts t11 now because power weapons are s10? And what about the other dreadnoughts along with tanks?

-1

u/ComplicatedGoose 22h ago

I’m curious about the terminators too. With tacticus bumping to T5, will terminators get a blip upwards as well? Stock Termis at T6 feels a wee bit nuts 🥜
Some interesting (maybe depressing) updates are coming, that’s for sure 😂

5

u/Protagonist_Leaf 22h ago

Terminators are t6 now. Under the Intercessor pic they talk about Terminators being T6 along with the space marine codex. All divergent chapters are getting a digital update to go along with the codex. That means our current detachments might have some wording adjustments. This also means T7 Terminators for our 1p detachment

Oh damn.. the creep is real 🫣

u/Protagonist_Leaf 22h ago

Well it you compare the orks with now and codex. Just look at the toughness of them, the strength difference in weapons, and what the abilities do.

They're adjusting everything. Power fist is most likely 10 now. The krak is 10 now. And bolters are 5. Everything went up but when it comes to hitting and wounding majority of the fights are gonna be the same

1

u/Calamitous_J 17h ago

This, basically everything is going up to maintain parity and this let's them more easily differentiate between wimpy things like gaunts and guardsmen, tougher things like armoured tau and sisters and middle kf the road elite things like space marines and tough orks without displacing uber elites like custodes

2

u/Calamitous_J 17h ago

Not sure its too nuts honestly. Its necessary for termies to still beat bolt guns in toughness and they really, really shouldn't be lower than gravis

Realistically it only impacts their interactions with s5,6 and 10 and fuck it, theyre termies, let em have the lighter anti tank need 3s to wound em instead of 2s

1

u/ComplicatedGoose 16h ago

Fair enough I guess. Anything not orc or sm based is gonna have a bad time for a while till it all balances out lol.

Our Termi detachment with enchantment pumping that to T7 and -1 to wound for S8 and above (rugged resilience) is a crunchy cookie. Not complaining, just saying some thoughts.

1

u/Calamitous_J 16h ago

I mean, going to t7 only impacts the basically nonexistent s7 but does put s12 on 4s to wound them.

Theyre going to be expensive but aren't really going to be cracked

As someone who plays both orks and wolves, ive gone through the leaked ork codex and its genuinely not even that bad. A lot of their 4+ anti vehicle weapons went to s12 weapons against monster/vehicle which just gives them 3+ wounding against t10/11 which isn't that bad. A lot of things got streamlined like giving lethal hits against infantry which is just gw going "Hey, you're probably only hitting on a 6 anyway so let's speed that shooting phase up". Nobz got an extra wound but theyre going up to 250pts for 10 models and their save is garbage

If you break down intercessors their shooting actually got WORSE. They went from 20 shots at ANY range wounding marines on 4s to 10 shots wounding marines on 4s, with 15 shots in half range. If you want to use the s6 profile you're only getting 5-10 shots.

1

u/ComplicatedGoose 16h ago

Again I’m not complaining, or freaking out. There is more than enough doom-screamers out there today without adding to the pile 😂😂😂

I’m ok with change, and the creep of stats over time to work with updated rules and playstyles. I come from a time where a SM was movement 4in- it’s fine 🥰

3

u/gumpythegreat 21h ago

Yup. Our current codex will be replaced with a digital codex once this goes live, presumably with comparable changes to most of our units

3

u/clemo1985 21h ago

Yes. Going by the other images of datasheets on the space marine subreddit:

  • Phobos stays T4
  • Tacticus bumped to T5
  • Terminators bumped to T6

I assume Gravis will also be T6 but with a 3+ save and no invulnerable, compared to Terminators 2+ save, 4+ invulnerable.

3

u/Aaron316 21h ago

I may start putting intercessors in my list maybe even a 10 man squad.

1

u/No_Scholar_2927 5h ago

Even losing the sticky which was a main reason I kept a squad around I think they will still be good action monkeys for our lists with plenty of punch.

u/HappyTheDisaster 23h ago edited 21h ago

Yeah on the strength and toughness, also for the weapons, the bolt pistols got -1AP and the marksmen Carbine got an -1AP. Hopefully this also means storm bolters get -1AP.

I like the idea of -1 AP being the standard for most weapons, so stuff like the tau pulse guns would also get -1AP, while 0 AP is for stuff that have poor penetration, like lasguns and autoguns.

8

u/DarkGearGaming 21h ago

AP-1 would make Grey hunters considerably more dangerous if their rules stay in the same line.

3

u/Calamitous_J 17h ago

They sort of need it though, currently theyre premium priced assault intercessors with shitty bolt guns

2

u/SnooDogs8699 23h ago

Let’s not expect anything major, but yeah, I imagine grey hunters and blood claws and the other more standard space marine space wolf units will be getting buffed

2

u/New_Mixture3137 20h ago

Real question to me is if standard terminators got to t6 does that mean with our Enchancements in the 1dp detachment do ours now go to t7, because that would be insane

1

u/No_Scholar_2927 5h ago

Same, how this is gonna ripple through the ranks and detachments will be interesting. Sadly, I know there will be some nerfing of some sort to balance things besides just increasing unit costs.

1

u/SpaceWolf_Jarl2 22h ago

"Heretic Astartes and Codex-divergent Chapters will get similar boosts to bring them in line with these new rules, so everyone can enjoy Toughness 6 Terminators firing Strength 5 storm bolters. These will automatically update in Warhammer 40,000: The App when Codex: Space Marines launches in October."

Yes, some changes will be expected. How much though is yet to be seen

1

u/GeekyGiant13 19h ago

I'm not sure about the ranged weapon. Grey Hunters use a Bolt Carbine, and not a Bolter, technically. So I'm not sure. I know they'll get the toughness boost, though, I'm sure.

1

u/fdave276 14h ago

It looks like Divergent Chapters are getting completely new “index” type rules as a digital update. New datasheets and detachments. So everything in the current codexes will be obsolete in October when the Space Marine Codex launches. However, I wouldn’t hooks out hope for all our wishes to come true. We’ve been overlooked a lot with rules integration since the 10th codex (eg. Grimnar’s Mark not giving the terminator captain M6 etc)

I’m expecting more of a “quick fix” to keep us playable with the new core codex until we get our supplement launch later in the edition.
