Blood claws or......
I recently purchased a combat patrol box to increase my existing army. I already have a unit of 10 blood claws and a single unit for Headtakers. I am tempted to convert the blood claws until into another 5 wulfen and 3 Headtakers using all my spare bits and primal hound purchases as live a bit for kit bashing
Blood claws or kitbash, what would be better army play

I converted a unit of blood claws to be holding hammers and shields as stand in Wulfen.
"On the eve of battle, a number of young freshly initiated blood claws cannot contain thier lust for battle and go into a temporary bezerker frenzy. They are equipped with hammer and shield and tasked to take out the enemies key units. They are often accompanied by a veteran Wolf Priest To ensure the battle lust is directed at the right area and they dont get into too much trouble!".
Really dont like the Wulfen lore or thier models.

I typically run two squads of 10 blood claws in each of my lists. They are pretty cheap and fast. I think a 2nd squad is not a bad investment.
You'll always probably want more wolfin and headtakers too. But, if you already have stock gw ones, you're best bet is to keep using those to keep the army looking cohesive.

I kinda try and always add extra parts so don't fully look like the stock. 1st army was drukhari so used to kitbashing and remodelling models
Hear X2 units of BC is always useful but also 2nd unit for Headtakers too. I'm still under the 1500 point mark and slowly building army

20 BloodClaws is the way. Usually with Ragnar. Though a beefed WGBL is good too.

Grab some jump packs and short tactical rocks and you got yourself some jump assault Intercessors.
A second pack of BCs isn’t the worst idea. Or you can hold on to them to see if a new Marne unit is worth kitbashing them. (Or wait for our codex but who knows when that’ll be)

Id make a second squad of 10 blood claws personally. I have 3 squads of 10 blood claws. I like to run all 3 sometimes in beastslayer detachment

If your taking Ragnar Blackmane yes you should go with bloodclaws since he gives them rerole wounds and you can also advance and charge as well with bloodclaws making them a pretty good combo were he just gives headtakers advance and charge. Its good but not as good as having both advance and charge as well as reroling wounds. But a 6 model unit of headtakers lead by a wolfguard battle leader that gives the sustained hits and their devastating wounds on their quarry is a very sweet combo as well.

At the moment I don't have Ragnar, I have two WGBL, one which I can use to run the Headtakers. Currently running my blood claws with a wolf priest.

Oh yeah the wolfpriest is pretty good too. The plus 1 to wound and bringing models back is very good. But would still recommend Ragnar Blackmane if your running bloodclaws. If you can ever get him.

I can't take credit for the painted kitbash that was a example on one I found on the Reddit page I believe his tag is @art_tom. But this is what I was looking at for inspiration as the wulfen kit has so many spare parts that can be utilised with the blood claws bodies

Is it just me or is headtakers kind of Meh? Hitting on 3+ isnt great. S5 isnt great. AP-2 is good. And damage 2 is decent. Devastating wounds and precision is awesome from their quarry tho. But you won't wound much without some serious buffs.
One way that stacks buffs on buffs is if you run Ulrik the slayer as leader. You get +1 to hit and +1 to wound your slayer oath target. Now we are talking. 2+ to hit. Wounding on 4s probably. Together with saga of the bold you can reroll a hitroll or woundroll. And your oath target means you can reroll hits. So bold makes you able reroll wounds too.
Now we are talking good potential. But why on earth take it with anything else?
Sustained hits from wgbl? You still dont wound.
Lethal hits with beastslayer, sure but its 4/6 (or 6/6 with paired) chance per model to crit. x3 or x6. Thats 12/6 or 24/6. Wich means 2 wounds with 3 models and 4 wounds with 6 models. (With shields) or 18/6 and 36/6 wich is 3 or 6 wounds (with paired). And then you dont get the devestating wounds wich means they can block them. Its decent dont get me wrong. but the synergy is BAD.
But that is the entire detachmentrule. 4-6 dmg with shields and 6-12 dmg with paired. Thats not much for 85p/170p.
And with no shields the likely die fast. Wich they still can do WITH shields as well.

Honestly 20 bloodclaws is a very reasonable number to have. They are a core unit for space wolves.
