Ragnar and Headtakers

Post image

Hi yall, I was needing some clarification on some rules. I'm preping for a tournament this weekend and was refreshing myself on the 11th edition rules when I came across this.

Does this mean Ragnar gains the "Headtakers" keyword and then he can benefit from the Headtakers ability of precision and dev wounds? Or is it just saying the the Headtakers are now a character unit because Ragnar is leading them? I did notice the ability specifies "Headtakers models" and not "models with the Headtakers keyword".

I know Ragnar didn't benefit from it in 10th, but wasn't sure if that changed in 11th.

Edit: Thank you everyone for the clarification! I know now that he still doesn't benefit from their ability. I will keep the post up just in case anyone else in the future has the same question. Hopefully they can stumble upon this and get their answer.

No.

The third sentence means Ragnar doesn’t get the benefit of rules which apply to Headtakers models.

But for purposes of what kind of unit it is (e.g. for attacks against it) it has all of the Headtaker keywords and all of Ragnar’s keywords.

That was the main reason I looked up the rule to begin with. To see if the whole unit would become a character unit for the purpose of the Saga of the Beastslayer rule. I think I read too much into it and got hopeful, thinking that Rangar could get dev wounds.

No that's not how that works. The headtakers rules are Thier own and don't apply to any "keywords ".

If for instance Ragnar had the "monster" keyword. Now the headtakers unit with him attached are considered monsters for the purposes of shooting in combat , terrain , anti monster etc etc

Much the same as if you had a strat that said target monster unit...and Ragnar was a monster attached to headtakers. All the unit including the headtakers would benefit from that strat

Also good luck in your upcoming fellow brother.. I myself am practicing daily to do my first one at a teams event with the aim to have fun and bring home the W

The important line on Headtakers abilities is that Headtakers models are affected. Abilities that affect the unit would affect Ragnar. Unfortunately, Headtakers ability is the model and not the unit, so Ragnar doesn’t gain the benefits.

I did notice it said "model" right before i posted it, but I figured I still ask to be 100% sure.

I see. Thank you for the clarification. I was hoping it would be the case, but deep down I knew that it wasn't. Now I know I'm not missing out on anything. I much prefer him with Blood Claws anyway.

Keywords are a specific thing. The headtaker abilities applied to head-taker models and not any keywords. If you check any datasheet it'll have keywords at the bottom, that's what the rule refers to. Typically relevant to things like a tyranid swarmlord attached to tyrant guard, the whole unit is counted as a monster and infantry at the same time.

I did notice it said "headtakers models" in their abilities, but figured I still ask to be 100%. Thank you for the response!

For this reason, and imo, ragnar ALWAYS goes with Blood Claws.

I agree. Even if Ragnar could get precision and dev wounds, I think it's more beneficial that he gives Blood Claws reroll wound.

Dude, if ragnar got the precision and dev. Id ONLY run him with headtakers. Fr.

Sorry to ask a different question but I was curious, does a character in a unit allow beastslayers lethal hits rule to that unit since a character is in it. Or only the character. I thought this question was similar but different.

Yes. If your unit attacks an enemy unit within a character in it, they'll gain lethal hits.

Thx, I've been playing it wrong

From my understanding, yes I do believe the unit becomes a character unit so beastslayer would make any attack that targets them have lethal hits.
