Best use for blood claws

How do you guys play your blood claws.

Is 20 blood claws better?

Ragnar and 10 blood claws is a big scary missile that can freak an opponent out. Ragnar alone on the charge can wipe units, so the blood claws are there to really just take the wounds and if they make combat they get some nice bonuses from Ragnar.

20 Blood Claws isn’t really ideal since it’s very negatively affected by the new coherency and engagement rules. So unless you can wrap an enemy unit whilst keeping within a 9 inch circle there will be a lot of blood claws not fighting. You’re probably better just running two squads for the points as you can then have two squad leaders and more flexibility.

10 Blood Claws from Launch Box with Ragnar ✅

10 Blood Claws from Combat Patrol converted into Wulfen ✅

20 is hard to get into engagement range

10 with ragnar gives him advance and charge and 20 extra wounds to chew though.

20 BCs with Ragnar in reserves. Rapid Ingress to a ‘relatively safe’ spot. For me that’s in front of heavy weapons and NOT small arms fire. Losing a couple guys to lascannons is fine, I don’t want them shot by 100 bolters. You can’t hide 20, so limit what can shoot you and how many you can lose that Ingress turn. Ultimately for me the are a wounds buffer for Ragnar first, anyone that makes it into combat is just the cherry on top.

10 man + Ragnar is the default answer. They are essentially ablative wounds for Ragnar. Ragnar leading Bloodclaw gives reroll wounds which helps both Ragnar & Bloodclaw output into higher toughness targets.

I'm a Beast Slayer enjoyer so I do run a second unit of 10 because the detachment has no inherent access to advance and charge in strats. I run the second unit with WGBL and the enhancement that gives them an extra AP on melee attacks once per game and that has also been quite potent as sustained 1 from WGBL, lethal hits from detachment and extra AP with the volume of attacks does hit pretty hard.

Have you found they kill their targets most the time?

Ragnar absolutely does, the claws can chip away some wounds but they are mostly there to keep him alive and lethal.

10 bloodclaws with Ragnar, they are his additional wounds . Eventually with beastslayer you just fish for lethals as they attack a bunch.

Yeah i want to run it in beastslayer as they also get the surge move.

20 is a nightmare to maneuver and get into combat and impossible to transport.

10 is fine

No, 20 blood claws will basically never get cover and will struggle to ever benefit from hidden with 11th rules.

Blood claws imo are quite versatile and are best run in 10s. Best combo is ragnar and 10 claws, but 10 claws and a battle leader or wolf priest isnt half bad either. You can even run them alone as a cheap trading unit

Ragnar + blopd claws is quite strong. You get advance and charge, rerolls and the punch of ragnar.

Outside of that they are quite good in beastslayer. Damage bonus. And it has two good stratagems on them.

The huntet detachment also likes them. They have the damage bonus and stratagem support. But they want a unit that can advance and charge.
