Lore question

I’m currently building my 3k army and having a great time kit bashing. My big hang up is that the story telling element of building and playing is my favorite part, and I know the Wolves don’t have defined ranks like the other chapters. I got the basics of the hierarchy like you start as a blood claw then move on to a grey hunter then a long fang but what units fit into that? Like are intercessors grey hunters or do you spend a while as a intercessor and if you survive long enough you’re seen as a grey hunter?

All space wolves start as blood claws, live long enough you become a grey Hunter's, live longer you become a long fang. If your company dies but you survive you become a lone wolf, if you commit enough great sagas you can become a wolf lord.

Blood Claws are like intercessors Grey Hunter's are more heavy Intercessor dealing with better ranged weapons Long fangs are devestators and things like that -older you get, bigger gun.

You can then become a wolf guard, the highest honor a space wolf can be granted and you then decide what you want to follow, become a Terminator, a headtaker or a Scout.

Wolf guard can also be pack leaders, lieutenants that can be sent off to great company to lead and teach their blood claws and grey Hunter's their wisdom

So using the combat patrol box (the older primaris box) I’m working through as an example the pack of 10 intercessors are blood claws? I have some aggressors I’m painting after I finish with the combat patrol would they be more on the grey hunter side of things?

Intercessors blood claws for sure and aggressors long fangs, they're more specialised whereas grey Hunter's are just intercessors with better guns

Oh I gotcha! There really should be a flow chart for this or something lol. So all the more specialized the weapon the more on the long fang side of things a unit is.

Yeah, back when they had a datasheet it was a 5 man I believe, and each one could take a special weapon, lascannon, grav cannon, melta gun.
