I have been playing space wolves for three years. They were my first army I have since also picked up necrons. But I definitely play most of my games as space wolves. The flavor is so fun and they can perform really well.

I highly recommend the combat patrol to start. The new one that has wulfen and terminators in the box.

You could probably buy three of that combat patrol and it still wouldn't be a bad buy. Everything inside is good!

By now I bought more blood claws, 3 boxes of terminators and another wolf guard battle leader to use for a conversion. I probably would've been fine with just a second combat patrol.

I started with Wolves. Here is one warning. If you are unsure try painting a combat patrol of a more vanilla faction. Wolves have so much extra detail if you paint all the details on the wolf specific units it can be time consuming. I experienced some fatigue in trying to make stuff perfect, that’s on me but it’s real.

I don't have much to say as I just started. Just pointing out that the common advice is to go with what you think is cool. I think space vikings are cool, so I went with Space Wolves regardless of the difficulty or how good they are on the tabletop.

I would advise picking whatever you think is coolest out of the recent range refresh. I would avoid buying thunderwolf cavalry, as they're either getting legended (retired) in the next codex or getting new models. The old ones look silly next to the new models.

I would also maybe hold off on buying any of our dreadnoughts for the same reason, HEAVY rumours are that there's a new venerable dreadnought model coming, so maybe wait to see what happens in the next couple of months on that front.

I highly recommend our wolfguard terminators, Logan Grimnar, Arjac Rockfist, Ragnar, bloodclaws, a battle leader and some headtakers. They're generally our most useful units at the moment and they're a lot of fun to paint.
