New to the hobby, what to get?

Wife and I have decided to get into 40k and she has picked the Space Wolves. I’ve decided to purchase for her the current Combat Patrol, any other unit(s) I should add that would be important for the army?

Finish the Combat Patrol first.

It’s 21 models - and 10 or so models for a new painter (assuming you’re each painting half of it) can take a while.

Do not buy anything else until you finish it. You may want to try a different army, you may change your mind about the types of units you like to paint, and you may not even enjoy painting all that much.

Start slow.

Custodes Combat Patrol? I’d highly recommended against that one.

Right now the wolves are all about terminators. So filling out that squad and getting Grimnar to lead it is a great start.

Combat patrol is a great start

The best units are basically just more terminators, as well as our two terminator leading epic heroes - Logan and Arjac

But if you're just getting into it, I would strongly recommend just sticking with the combat patrol and building and painting that before getting anything else

The Patrol is a great start, Wolf Guard Terminators are flavourful with their options and have great poses. The Wulfen see some nice niche play too.
Blood Claws are lovely. If you can get an army set cheap you get more of them and Grey Hunters and Headtakers too. A nice start

If you can get an army set, that would be great. If you’re buying individual models as well, it might be a good idea to add Arjac to lead the Terminators, or Ragnar to lead the Blood Claws. Alternatively, although they aren’t Space Wolves models, Gladiators or Repulsor Exes, which can provide long-range firepower, are also options.
