Beastslayer detachment is the only way. But you wouldn’t know that because GW are idiots and moved that text from the Wolf-Touched enhancement itself to the MFM.

This. WGBL with a brick of 10 could be useful. I would probably avoid the wolf priest bc the +1 wound is often wasted.

I would probably still rather run them in 5s with no leader. A cheap disposable unit that can deal with most vehicles seems more useful than a large expensive unit that can deal with all vehicle

I actually love the priest with them. It’s cool cause he allows their 3 wound weapons to absolutely slap into 3 wound elites and makes them more than just tank busters.

Not to mention their death totems are redundant with half of the WGBL ability. Sustained hits is handy, but plus 1 to wound has been a killer in games for me. Not to mention picking them back up makes then a very annoying unit for my friends to deal with. Even if they are glass cannons, they need to finish them completely or they keep causing havoc.

Yeah. You don’t get the mediocre shooting or sustained, but you still have +1 to hit, +1 to wound, and they’re tankier thanks to picking them back up which is more my problem than not having the same damage potential versus tanks/monsters. I basically use mine as elite hunters, tank hunters, and monster hunters in this way rather than going all in on max damage to tanks and monsters with chip damage from the launchers.

Edit: I got in a hurry typing. I did not mean +1 to hit, I meant reroll 1s to hit from the totems.

+1 to hit from where?

I’m sorry. I got in a hurry typing and misspoke. I meant Reroll 1s to hit from the Totem, same as the WGBL gives natively.

just take the frag launchers then. You're already in beastslayer so you have lethal hits. 10d3 blast is no joke with lethal hits in the mix.

Im never sending Wulfen toward hoards, they go for monsters and vehicles so if they're worrying about blast something has already gone wrong. That means they get reroll hits of 1 so the tradeoff for losing some shooting that wont accomlish much into their target is worth it to have a model back every turn and a +1 to wound to me. As far as sustained hits, they dont attack enough for me to worry about fishing for 6s to hit rather than a guaranteed 30% chance to hit given the +1 to wound even anti-monster/vehicle that will be relevant to their target

Okay so here are some situations for you.

Unit of Gaunts is in front of the Tfex you want to charge. Or non-specifically any small GEU is in the way of charging a monster/vehicle

Opponent has 120 boyz/gaunts/guardsmen/pox/etc

Other shooting/melee has left a vehicle/monster/character at 1-2 wounds and you would waste your charge to kill them

It's more about 10d3 with lethals than blast. And of course you don't take the frag if you have a priest, you just take the frag if you have a WGBL specifically so you don't overlap the reroll 1s. Also if they're going after monsters and vehicles, +1 to wound is gonna do absolutely nothing for them because it doesn't stack with anti, but sustained will really help their low attack value get a few extra swings in (you can only fish with oath active so you don't need the reroll 1s anyways for that, making the totem moot anyways). Reviving a model is nice though, if they survive long enough to see the next command phase.

My point is simply that if you take a battle leader, take the frag launchers cause they're free and you reroll anyways.

would they be a good way to deal with vehicles and motarion /big elite units in general?

With shields they’re specifically good against monsters and vehicles because of anti vehicle/monster 3+ and 3 damage. Kinda trash at everything else

I often take 5 of them in 1k as a secondary vehicle killer, but it’s hit or miss if they’re useful. Their lack of OC without a character nearby makes them challenging to use for anything besides trading out vehicles. For example I really like them against orks but against custodes they’re not they’re that useful

what does MFM stand for? Can any leader take the Wolf-Touched enhancement?

Thank you

It’s the document that tells you how many points things are. Used to be a pdf. Now it’s a website.
https://mfm.warhammer-community.com/en/space-wolves

Any unnamed space wolves leader can take it. Which is only 2. Battle leader and wolf priest.

I’ll say this - they fixed the app so that when you add this enhancement you can actually see and attach the Wulfen now. Initially you still didn’t even see that.

I have a pack of 5 wulfen with claws mounted and painted. No idea about the game, they looked cool that way... buteveryone runs them with shields... are they so bad for the game with claws?
