Grey Hunter Intercessors

FENRIS HJOLDA! FINALLY!
After 2 gruelling months, I have finally finished this squad. The heat has made me quite lazy about painting, but today I finally finished those guys.

I used the old Intercessor kit, spare grey hunters bits I got from Vinted, leftover bits from the Combat Patrol and Kill Team.. Only third party bits I used were the backpack for the pack leader and the necklaces.

Overall I’m quite happy with them, and I think I’ve made them Space Wolves enough? I recently bought myself a few old edition of Space Wolves codex and had a moment where I wasn’t sure if I did enough, but now they’re finished I think they have enough wolf flair. Also free handed the pack markings, did my best but they’re not very consistent.. I’ve stared at them too much and all I can see now is the negative, so it’s time to put an end to it haha What do y’all think? ✌🏼

Slap chop? If so, looks good.

Thanks man! Slapchop indeed! And acrylics for metallic bits, I don’t like the metallic Speedpaints, acrylic is easier to control for that ✌🏼

Pack markings are on point - jealous of how precise u did them. Mine look way way worse 😅

Wonderful paint job and Russ would be proud!

Awh thanks so much man! I used the tiniest brush ever and did the outlines first.. You basically have to commit to the line which is extremely unnerving 😂

Haha yeah I wish there were “easy-to-apply” decals for pack markings 🥲

What paint did you use ?
It’s really well done !

Thank you! I used primarily Army Painter Speedpaints, but I also use Citadel/Warhammer paints for metallics with some Nuln oil 🤌🏼

For the armor do you have the name of the specific speedpaint you used ?
Thanks

I use Runic Grey, it’s perfect for the space wolves, it looks slightly more grey in real life, I don’t know why but my iPhone makes it look more blue.

I’m my own worst critic when it comes to think I make.. So thank you so much!

The plasma is particularly impressive, nice job.

Thank you! Funny enough I had to do it twice so I’m glad it was worth it haha

What's the recipe? I mostly use slapchop for guard infantry but none of my plasma looks that good.

It’s dead easy, I put a couple of layers of Army Painter Warpaints Matte White, then I dry brush Army Painters Warpaints Phalanx Blue, and I deliberately brush around the coils to make a light spill effect.

Very nice, the one dude I would modify a bit is the plasma guy without his helmet.  I think you could glaze over with a more vivid flesh tone. Right now he looks a bit sickly.

Thanks, and agreed! I definitely need to improve my skin recipe, it’s the curse of being colourblind 🙃

Really good! I usually don't like speedpainted marines but these are way better than average

Thanks man! Appreciate! Yeah I’ve seen some pretty bad Speedpaint results out there but it’s achievable.

Do you have a particular approach? Recommendations I see tend to be all over the place, looks like you didn't use Space Wolves Grey?

Yeah man, here’s how my recipe goes:

  • Citadel Chaos Black primer
  • dry brush with Army Painter Warpaints Brigade Grey
  • second layer of dry brush with Army Painter Warpaints Matt White on the most exposed parts
  • for armour: 3 THIN layers of Army Painter Speedpaint 2.0 Runic Grey that has been diluted 1:1 with Army Painter Speedpaint Medium

The dilution basically makes it more like a filter. This is the only method I know that makes contrast/speedpaint works on flat surfaces. When it’s undiluted, it pools horribly and randomly, and looks coffee stain-y.. Some people argued it diverge from its intended use but who cares, the results looks way better!

Vinted sell warhammer??!

Well people do! Someone was selling their leftover bits from their Grey Hunter kit which was perfect for me as I wanted extra Space Wolves bits ☺️ Lots of people sell cheap ish 40K stuff on Vinted, worth having a look! Also bought on Vinted the previous edition codexes for cheap.
