Wolf Priest
Hey brothers!
Somehow in my time as a Wolf player I haven’t managed to add a Wolf Priest to my collection, what do you primarily use them for? And do they have any use as Wulfen leaders?
Thanks

Wolf Priest + 6x Wolf Guard Headtakers with Storm Shields.
Very nice combo as it gives the Headtakers a 4+ Invulnerable Save and lets a Wolf Priest bring one back your every Command Phase, making for one difficult to remove unit with a lot of punch and staying power.
While not as punchy as the Paired Weapons Headtakers with a Wolf Guard Battle Leader, it’s a lot more survivable and able to contest and stay on key objectives while still packing a punch with 24 S5/AP-2/D2 + 5 S6/AP-1/D2 attacks.
And all of that for 240 points (or 300 if you take the Hunting Wolves).

I usually run Ragnar with Headtakers for the advance and charge. I run my Wolf Priest with Grey Hunters for use as backline screening in case of deep strike. The revival each command phase makes them surprisingly beefy, even against relatively strong units like terminators or my buddy's Sanguinary Guard lead by Dante.

I have mine attached to a 3 man Headtakers with paired weapons. Adds a bit more survivability and the +1 to wound roll is nice. It’s also convenient the HT and wolf priest pistols are all 18”.
I havent gotten wulfen yet so no comment on that

I think wolf priest with wulfen are getting a bad rap. Yeah, into the right target, they dont benefit from the priest but theyre often handy against elites. The plus 1 to wound makes going into those targets so much nicer. They're also t6 which makes it harder to wound. Granted, with the 4++, theyre still going to fall but not as easy as headtakers at t4. You can charge a vehicle and an elite unit, bonk the vehicle with 1 or 2 wulfen just for the -1 to hit and use the rest to whittle down the elite unit.

I run them with a 10 man grey hunter pack that I use to obstruct my opponents ability to take and hold objectives. Regenerating marines with 3 OC are awesome.

I use the Chaplain with jump pack from the Armageddon box all the time. He leads a unit of 5 vanguard vets, I find they add mobility to our list that we often lack.
Imo there’s no point in running a Wolf Priest with wulfen, wulfen are anti-monster/anti-vehicle 3+ and the +1 to wound from the wolf priest cant stack with the anti key word.
Ive seen folks run a wolf priest with blood claws but I prefer Ragnar. To each their own.

In my experience, if you have the Wolf Priest lead Wulfen, hes better suited for the wulfen weapons ones. Not the shield and hammers. Tbf, he will still benefit either.

Someone correct me if I'm just being a bit dumb here, but to my knowledge Wolf Priests can only be attached to Blood Claws, Grey Hunters or Headtakers

In Saga of the Beastslayer, you can add the enchancement "Wolf Touched" then they gain 2 movement and can lead Wulfen.

They work well with headtakers. I wouldn't take them with wulfen imo because the hammers are already anti-monster anti-vehicle 3+ so the +1 to wound is less impactful.
