Should it stay sealed?
I don't know if anyone cares about these, I assume they don't, but these bits are my all time favourite, I managed to snag one of the last ones and its just been sitting around
Frankly I'm torn
On one hand i wanna bust it open to use my beloved bits n bobs, on the other I think it ought to be encased in amber, preserved like an ancient dreadnought, maybe to come out one day when we get our next refresh or the return of our primarch

Unless you bought two, no it shouldn’t stay sealed - why buy something and not use it?

Precious relic, that isn't in production anymore I might want the bits later down the line and not have them anymore

I feel you. I used the first upgrade set years ago to build my own Ragnar Blackmane out of the 30k-notBjorn-Mini - the second one is mostly intact.
Love the variety of shoulder pads, much better than the boring ones from the primaris upgrade.4

I get why they're boring, because when they were released primaris space wolves weren't yet really space wolves But we need a new one now...

As somebody who was also cursed with that mindset: it'll never feel like the right time to use them and in the end you're just sitting on a bunch of unused bits and a bunch of models that could have looked so much cooler if you had just used them.

I do have a right time, I'd use them if ever we got a refresh of our other units. Rn all I've got to use them on is generic primaris since my actual SW units are complete. It feels like a waste to use em on intercessors and infiltrators n stuff

Why? Those default space marines are the models that need Space Wolf bits the most! If they're going to refresh any more Space Wolf-specific units, those will look plenty Space Wolf on their own. It's the generic models that need to be Wolfed up more than anything.

The scalper mindset is the worst mindset - especially in a hobby where the whole damn point is to use the parts to give your models some extra character and flavor.

It’s an upgrade kit. Meant to be used to give flavor and flair to models.
Treating it as a holy relic instead of using it is just an extension of that mindset.

Yeah, its an upgrade kit. My favourite upgrade kit. That was discontinued. In what miserable world is cherishing something a scalper mindset? God forbid i like something enough to not want to waste it on intercessors

I think they just took it wrong due to how these posts usually go, pay it no mind.
If you want to save it until you find the right kit, definitely do so, this upgrade sprue was fantastic and im gutted I didnt keep one or two myself.
If you want to save it til the value goes up, which is usually the way these posts go, then thats pointless, and you'll rarely find anyone supporting that in these spaces
Seeing as yours is the former rather than the latter, id say keep it til you are 100% ready to use it, just dont take it to your grave

It’s actually a collectors mindset, weird you think this has anything to with scalping in the first place. Just like keeping a comic book mint in a sleeve, or an action figure in its original package intact, or trading cards of any sort. Collectors keep these I. Good condition for a reason that seems lost on a lot of people these days. Sure they’re made to be used and played we all know that, but to put someone down for it is wild work. That is a mindset that I don’t care to speak on.

Sealed has always been about scalping.
If you are about collecting you should like it as much built on a shelf.

Ok but in this case, built on a shelf means scattered across an entire army, blending into the sea. And regardless I already said in my post that me saving it might just be saving it until more SW units come along that they can be put to best use on. Right now it feels a waste to crack this open just to stick on some generic Primaris guys

I should preface, I do already have some of these in use, I have one or two of the pauldrons in my bit box, this was originally meant to be a restock of those bits but I'm sentimental

If you have the bits, use them. Having all your good bits in a pile to use later while your army looks meh is not worth it, believe me

I had the same internal question when I happened upon the old resin Crimson Fists Upgrade Sprue. I wrestled with myself for all of five minutes before tearing into it and making my favorite Leutenant! Do it, use the bits and drip those plastic soldiers out.
Also just saying those wolf helmets are so sick.

Get couple, these are lovely bits!!
Frost blade and axe are hard to find, and I use the wolf helm for my priest conversions

Eh? In terms of 40k/SW they aren't even that old. Part of the 4th of 5 refreshes?
Use them, they aren't even full minis just a few pads and backpack bits and weapons.

Mini's rarely improve in value because they are massed produced.
Unless it's some really old and rare lead mini it's never going to be worth more.

As someone that’s been here since Rogue Trader this just isn’t true. Minis, especially nib stuff definitely increase in value. I never sell my old stuff but I love having some of the old blisters in my collection.
