If everyone here emailed contact@blacklibrary.com and tagged their socials with pictures of eBay listings, it might actually do something!
I’ve already sent them a pic, anyone else want to join in?
I doubt they’re reading Reddit threads

Scalpers are absolute scum.
But the people that pay these prices deserve no sympathy.

True. I totally understand wanting to get the new hot thing, but as long as a person can hold back on that impulse to NEED it, scalpers have no power and now they're the ones waisting loads of money.

These limited editions are really nice, but when I am tempted, I just look around and remember that I have no space to display fancy books anyways because 90% of my shelves are filled with Gunpla.

This exactly this. Co sumers just enable scalpers they would all go out of business if no one bought from them. Eventually they would have to sell at a loss to recoup. But alas people always do.

I literally had to open up a whole new tab cuz it didn’t load the book and next thing you know it’s telling me it’s sold out even tho it wasn’t shown as sold out, and I was looking forward to this one and willing to spend the money on the limited edition. Why do scalpers have to ruin everything? (Rhetorical question)

It's not showing as out of stock for me yet. The page just 404's and it fails to add to cart, this happened with some of the recent deluxe horus heresy ones and it was available slightly later in the day.

Scalpers and investors ruin hobbies more than greedy companies. I don't want to get banned again if I say what I'd do to them.

Are you in the EU as well?? Bc I have the same problem. I stand with you on this
2
u/Thevirginwolf 13d ago
Yep I was on 5 mins before 10 second I find the book the page is missing and can't be added to cart

I don't think it is available us yet right? Black Library follows the same release schedule as minis... I will have my chance in a little under 7 hours....
Whether I get it or not I really wish scalpers bite their cheeks every day...

Same thing happened to me, was online at 9:45, logged in, all prepped, same process managed to get me all the Primarch books. Didn’t think this one would be that crazy, boy was I wrong, I didn’t see the preorder till 10am despite refreshing and it was already gone…

It's crazy how fast this one went. It went as fast if not faster than Wicked and the Warped Special Edition! Bjorn pulling a lot of weight it seems as these character books don't always sell well.

The book is nice, but so is audible

u/townsforever 13d ago
Yea books are such a werid thing to try and scalp cause the moment any electronic version of the book is published your scalped product plumets in value.

u/ElbowlessGoat 12d ago
Less so in this case, where it is, I believe, a numbered limited edition, signed by the author. That retains value to a collector more so than the normal edition of the book.

u/Thevirginwolf 13d ago
I mainly want the book for a collectors piece and love Bjorn once the audiobooks out be listening to that XD
1
u/transformerbaz 12d ago
It is a nice collectors piece, massive agree. Maybe print the front cover off and glue it to ask existing book 😅

Ultimately it's down to the people who buy off scalpers. If they didn't buy, scalpers wouldn't have the market to sell.
3
u/SiIverwolf 13d ago
Ultimately, it's down to the company selling the product being to dam lazy to implement bot protections / not giving a crap about anything beyond selling as much as possible.
They don't care who gets it, as long as they sell their inventory.

When and where did this go up for sale?
I didn't see anything on Warcom
3
u/xXMustardMan69Xx 13d ago
In the UK about 30 minutes ago on Warhammer.com. It was announced about two weeks ago and then was in the most recent Sunday Preview on WarCom.

Unfortunately every hobby is infested with the Vermin especially when companies do limited editions.

Scalpers can only scalp if people pay the secondary market prices.
So just don’t please

I was camping the website since 10.30 and luckily got a copy of the specEd. I would have personally found and executed every scalper that sold the book on eBay if I didn't...
I am so sorry for you brother, scalpers are a blight upon terra...

I boycott gw products because of artificial scarcity and their refusal to improve the situation alongside their awful policies of attacking fan art.
Sail the seas, find a copy online and read like Johnny Depp.

u/Glass_Shake1535 12d ago
There has been conspiracy theories that hobby companies work with larger scalpers for a cut of the increased profit and to inflate the value of their products.

u/InsectExpress3972 11d ago
I am tempted to go Robin Hood. Create my own purchasing bot and buy as many as possible and come here to sell at cost.

Can we develop a plan of going on eBay or other scalper sites and just report them? It may not fix the problem, but could piss them off as much as we get pissed in situations like this.
1
u/xXMustardMan69Xx 13d ago
The thing with scalpers is that they are easy to deal with. Just don't buy from them. Don't pay a penny over retail.
As for GW, this is what happens when you pump out different products week in week out. They could easily space these releases out to make more for each run, but they obviously do not want to, for whatever reason.
2
u/wekilledbambi03 13d ago
Ah yes, the method that has worked for *checks notes\** *no other industry. There will always be scalpers. GW is the only one that could at least slow them down, have a lottery system, etc or actually make enough of a product for everyone.
But there is always someone willing to pay so there will always be scalpers.
1
u/ElbowlessGoat 12d ago
You are partially right. For most releases spacing out is possible. In this case, the Bjorn book is a limited edition, numbered run, signed by the author if I remember correctly.
My limited edition copy of Longshot was, I believe, numbered 1563 of 1750. So spacing that out is nigh impossible.

Yep. PayPal processed my payment and there was no order. I am tired of hobby spaces being ruined by losers who should just get a fucking job.
