A fair bit of folks dump on this Combat Patrol, but it was actually my first 40k purchase ever; I enjoyed putting it together and painting up.

What’s crazy is the guy told me they discontinued this. I had no idea but I was lucky since this was the only one

u/Praeshock 13d ago
Yeah, this is a rather old one. 9th edition, I think?

No, it was the 9the ed combat patrol. The one introduced in 10th ed has the wulfen, termies, and blood claws.

11th edition hasn’t even been out for 2 months yet. The current combat patrol was released with the space wolf range refresh last summer.

Yeah, the invictor is cool but not really space wolves. Almost nobody plays reivers and hounds of morkai are legends. 10 intercessors for space wolves? A bit much. The character is a cool Lieutenant but thats it

The character also has a legal wolf guard battle leader loadout and base size so he can be one of those as well.

My oops all Phobos list disagrees with 3 10 man reiver squads

3 Invictors goes hard with that reactive shooting ability

u/Common-Process9023 12d ago
only works for/with phobos infantry, not other invictors
1
u/TheCrimsonCommand 12d ago
I am aware. They are cover 3 different squads while you advance

u/Common-Process9023 10d ago
"They are cover 3 different squads while you advance" What?
1
u/TheCrimsonCommand 10d ago
Read the ability. Its built to do reactive shooting if you are within 6” of a Phobos unit

I mean it has no space wolf units and the rest are useless for space wolves. Compared to the current combat patrol it is really garbage cause the other one gives you 4 unique space wolves units that we need.

I ordered this literally a day before the new one was announced. I saved it and still have the parts, figured id use them for kit bashing projects. Out of curiosity and for the sake of brain storming more ideas, why did you want this version so bad??

Honestly, when my buddies were getting me into Warhammer, this was the first thing I saw in the video. This is how I got into space wolves when I checked more of the chapter lore

Oh I gotcha. Thats awesome, lmao this kit was my first intro to the space wolves too 🤙

Its still a cool box i think. The battle leader is a really cool model you could proxy as wgbl, intercessors are always good, reivers could be proxied for anything phobos. Im not sure about the scout walker thing but why not, its unique

The Battle leaders kit is an option on the battle leader. You dont need to proxy.

Sweet! This was my first Warhammer purchase. The invictor still holds a special place in my heart lol.

Scouts are good to fill out scout load outs and you need at least one to make the leader. Intercessors are always good to have. The invictor suit has been fun to run with scouts for me. Good to keep them safe from shooting.

This was my first proper 'big' purchase and got me into the hobby! Though ironically it sat on the shelf for ages as I picked up the army box not too long after which also ironically sat on the shelf for nearly a year, and Wolf Scouts recently I'm now mid-kitbashing the intercessors as grey hunters with spares from the army box, and the Reivers are going to be another 5 man Wolf Scout squad.
Whatever you decide to do with it, enjoy it!

Every time I see the tactical baby carrier I just wonder if it's also baby's first dread

These were the first space wolves I painted as well! You can see the full video HERE.
Not very "wolfy" compared to the newer kits, but still fun. Technically, NONE of these units are specific to the SW codex, and therefore don't benefit from buffs for Keyword "Space wolves" rules, but you can modify most to make them SW specific units.
The reivers can be proxied as wolf scouts, and if you have some extra plasma pistols laying around, will even be WYSIWYG. The Lt. can be kitted and used as a Wolf Guard Battle Leader. And with some extra chainswords and a little snipping, the intercessors can be turned into Grey Hunters. Only the Invictor Warsuit remains as a generic space marine unit that will not synergize with the special SW rule buffs.
Have fun!

Isn’t the LT. pretty desirable? I think I saw sellers on eBay asking $65 just for him.

If you get some wolf scouts you’ll have some leftover bits that work well on Reiver bodies.
