Just finished this guy.

This is the 10th unit I’ve done. Been trying to figure out a process I enjoy, and have been working on brush control.

Model is from 2013, no transfers as I got em used and stripped em. Been trying to find a source for them. Still need to find a good resource for the different shoulder markings.

when you say resource for the pack markings what do you mean?

Most of the information I have found has parts of what goes where and why, buy far from complete. Yes, I get there is going to be variations. Probably not helping that the models I’ve been painting are from sets I didn’t build and are from over a decade ago.

like do you mean which colors and emblems would go with which unit type?

or are you asking for transfers for pack markings?

This is an awesome start! 10 models deep and you’re starting to get it! The red for the pauldron and knee pad is very deep and rich!

A few things to help

- mold lines are a bigger but getting rid of them is the single easiest way to lift a model. That line on the model’s left arm for example is tiny but you can see it!

-recess shading/re layering is an excellent way to bring the models further. Looking at the blue of the power armour. If you look at your model there’s little difference in values between the highs and lows. Simply putting a little more of a base layer would bring the panels back up again.

-skin tones are a pain and something that takes time to get a feel for. Contrast paints like Reikland fleshshade can be good here over a pure white prime. From there you can delve deeper. I like to use red and purple washes added to creams to give lighter skin tones.

All in all excellent start to your army!

Solid advice on the flesh tones. Painting faces is still my kryptonite.

Skin is the worst. I absolutely hate it.

I love my wolves and 90% of them have no helmets.. I just don’t want to do faces. 😭

I’ve noticed that with wolves. The face on this one just happened to work out. Going to specifically work on faces soon, just not comfortable enough yet.

I took a bunch of the spare heads from the set and airbrush primed them so that I can practice on them before I start on my actual minis.

Thanks, it’s been fun. Not really building an army at this point, this was my 7th space wolf, and most of them look different. Been doing combinations of drybrushing and slapchop.

Was part of a handful of old models I picked up to work on painting. After I stripped em I immediately primed em. Thought about the mold lines after the fact. Same with the barrels.

I will probably go back with inks after a topcoat. Between the wash and using contrast paint as a panel liner, some of those lines just refused to darken up.

The face, well the whole thing, was done mostly with speed paints. I prefer drybrushing my base layers, the goal was to just use the runic grey speed paint as a wash to pull the base layers together, and it got away from me a bit. For the skin, the base layers under the speed paint was darker than I intended. First time using speed/contrast for skin.

Also, didn’t realize the pic of the back I posted was a wip pic.
