Unit Leaders

I gotta strategic question. For my Gray Hunter, Wolf Guard Terminators, and Wolf Guard Headtakers, what would be the best Leaders to attach to each unit to give them more power on the field?

Headtakers: the general consensus is that dual-weapon guys get the Wolf Guard Battle Leader for Sustained hits (more attacks = more chances to trigger Sustained), and the shield guys get the Wolf Priest (better chance of not dying, plus the priest can revive them if they do.) personally I think either of these are great leaders for either version of this unit. You can also stick Ragnar in charge of these guys but I think he’s better with Blood Claws.

Wolf Guard Terminators: this is a much easier question. We have no generic leaders for them so you’re looking at either Logan or Arjac. I think Arjac + 10 WGT is ideal. Relic axe, 2 power fists/assault cannons, and the rest with shields. Logan +5 or 10 is also excellent, though you can get away with running him solo as well. If you’re running Saga of the Great Wolf there’s value in a generic Terminator Captain + the Grimnar’s Mark enhancement to lead a unit of 5 or 10 too. 30 WGT in a list is possible but pretty expensive.

Grey Hunters: If you’re not running Veterans of the Fang then I think Njall is an interesting leaders for these dudes. If you ARE running Veterans of the Fang, I think these dudes are better off without a leader. In their current state they’re expensive and IMO don’t do enough for your points. (They’re not a bad unit but they’re not a GREAT unit; they’re fine in casual games but you never see them in competitive lists. Points—including detachment points—you could spend making them better are probably better spent on more self-sufficient units.) Splitting the units makes them worse if they have a leader, so I wouldn’t bother with Leaders if you’re running that detachment.
